I reside in Texas and will keep this comment updated throughout the summer as I replace some 5000 BTU series window units (GE, Arctic Freeze, Midea). The older models only function up to 98°F, whereas these are rated to cool in temperatures up to 113°F. While I don't expect it to be icy, I'm hoping for a tolerable environment. Typically, our house temperatures reach the 90s during the hottest part of the day. The first two years were manageable, but the last summer was particularly unbearable. Seeing this option, we knew we couldn't endure another year under those conditions. Thankfully, we're doing better, even amidst current challenges. My desire to save is making me realize that refurbished and used items can be worthwhile, so let me emphasize: THESE ARE EXCELLENT! 1. There are a couple of dents on the back fins, but they can be straightened without compromising functionality. 2. There is a low to medium hum when on auto fan; I wonder if there's a dampener or something I'm not aware of. All other functions sound great, and surprisingly, it's quieter than the 5000 BTU series. 3. It lacks some operations, such as a passthrough/outdoor/ion mode that allows fresh air in (as I understand it). For some reason, this model is missing several functions. The firmware differs from the other two units. The WiFi and app features are impressive, especially for gardening. The AC functionalities are fantastic! I can set schedules, boundary activation modes, scenes, or make quick adjustments. These options can influence one or all the AC units simultaneously, among many others. If you're open to taking a risk and are potentially willing to exchange it (based on feedback I've read, although I believe one unit is indeed different), then getting the right one is a great deal! However, if you're in a hurry, I wouldn't recommend it. Installation isn't overly complicated but requires a methodical approach for everything to fit together. The instructions could be clearer, and if you're not handy, it's worth investing in installation; depending on your location, it might cost around $50. It comes with a sturdy bracket, anchoring system, and safety features. As a pro tip, I suggest purchasing a variety of weatherproof strips, as I think more should be provided; however, it's not a significant issue and is relatively inexpensive. Additionally, it's designed for windows no wider than 36.5 inches. All in all, I gave it five stars, but on a larger scale, it may only be 8 out of 10 on that scale.
i love it... i can still use my wimdow %26 its so quite, im officially spoiled by ac ...
Easy to understand remote, quiet in all functions both indoors and outside. Great value.
None of the installation foam sealant strips were included with the unit. Will have to get them from third-party source.
Had to modify the instructions because of older windows but so far seems great
Unfortunately in the shipping process, FedEx managed to damage the coils. They are bent up and it does seem to be effecting how well the AC could be running. I don't want to deal with a return as I'm disabled and the AC unit is incredibly heavy and I don't have help getting it back downstairs. So I'm stuck with this damaged AC even though I paid for the protection plan, they won't send new coils or anything I could fix myself.
I've bought 3 of these. One arrived broken, the front cover wouldn't stay on. The second one lasted only one summer, then failed with a strange error code. That one is unreturnable of course no warranty on a refurb. The third one is OK. The price is low, it is quiet, it will only fit some windows be sure to check. Get an add on warranty if you get this. I'd still buy one of these but only with a third party warranty add on, they aren't refurbished reliably enough to risk it. That can make it worth it.
I had to return it because the fan on the inside was hitting something. When I tried to return it, Walmart said there wasn't a warranty for it but the gentleman that I spoke with agreed to take it anyway so I appreciate that very much. I do have three other Madea air conditioners and they work perfect.
it was delivered to the wrong address! therefore i did not get the delivery! i did call the customer service to report this and have heard NOTHING about this since! I was given the impression that it was going to be replaced! i still haven't heard a thing! still waiting... this is becoming a habit with deliveries not getting to the correct address.
Just blows fan air does not cool room.
