Midea 18,000 BTU 230V Smart Window Air Conditioner with Comfort Sense Remote, White, MAW18S2WWT

This is more a review of your 1 star reviewers. Amy and Jennifer are unaware of how electricity works for higher power devices such as this air conditioner. Since Jennifer's review is considered the best negative review, I though I had better correct her. First, it is not her fault that she doesn't know about more than the run of the mill household electrical outlets. Most people don't. She did not understand that this unit runs on 230 volts. It was designed for 230 volts since if you double the voltage, you cut the current in half. Her solution of getting a converter from 115 volts to 230 volts would not work. That would double the current draw and most household outlets are limited at either 15 amps or 20 amps so it would trip her circuit breaker. If you are going to use this air conditioner or one like it, you MUST have a 230 volt outlet next to it, or have an electrician hard wire it to your circuit breaker box. Note that if you have a dedicated line running to just one outlet next to the window you wish to use, and assuming it is using the standard 12 ga wire, you can convert that outlet to 230 volts. DO NOT TRY THIS ON YOUR OWN UNLESS YOU ARE A VERY EXPERIENCED HANDYMAN. If you need me to explain how to do so here, you are not qualified to do it. That's all I wanted to say.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Midea window AC is one powerful unit!! I'm so happy we have this and received it just in time for Georgia's hot summer!! This arrived just in time for the heat turning up too, as it just started to warm up to the 90's!!! This is perfectly sized for our home too! This is a solid unit and cools the entire bottom level of our opened air floor plan. It fit perfectly in the window and has the side panels that were easy to install. The panels are cut to fit depending on the width of your window to avoid any open gaps letting the hot air in or cold air out. This unit requires 220 volt outlet to plug it in to get rolling. It also has its own GFI to protect the unit. So, be sure you have this type plug prior to purchasing or it will delay your install. Everything was intuitive once installed with the panel controls and the remote made it even easier to avoid having to all across the room to adjust. There is also an app for this you can install on your phone or tablet, which is even better for me. We are staying nice and cool inside while it's sweltering hot outside!! Yay!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This 18,000 BTU Midea unit is nice. It keeps my entire home nice and cold when it is hot outside. My space is larger and I need a unit that will work hard to keep my home cool and this is perfect. The installation was harder than I expected and the instructions weren't as clear as I'd like, however, I was able to get it installed with some help and it works amazing. The unit comes with a remote control, which helps in keeping the perfect temperature. This is definitely a heavy duty air conditioner that put out very cold air fast and covers a large area. I love this unit. My home is always the perfect temperature and it is easy to control with the touch of a button. I highly recommend this unit. It works as hard as we do to keep us feeling comfortable and cool in the summer heat.

So I thought I was being careful , reading reviews and checking this product out .. but they fail to mention anywhere on this site is that this particular unit needs to be plugged in to a special outlet that most of us won't have in our homes ! When the box arrived and I looked it over , I quickly realized that I would need to buy an adapter ( or so I thought ) and I wasn't worried .. just annoyed at that point . Then I try to find the correct adapter and that's where the problem starts .. most electrical outlets in our homes are for 120 volts , this unit requires 230 volts .. so you can not use an adapter , you need a converter . You need a converter because this unit needs more energy than our standard outlets are built to give .. and adapter would only change the shape of the plug , not the amount of energy , so you could seriously damage your unit or house if you used an adapter only . So just get a converter, right ? Well they don't seem to make any in the sizes needed to plug this AC into a standard wall unit .. so I either need to return this unit or hire an electrician to come out and install a new outlet that will be able to handle the required voltage this unit needs . Based off of google, that upgrade will cost me around $500 . There were some converters that possibly would work but it would cost me another $50 to find out .. so I can't give a review on the quality of this product because it clearly wasn't made with the intentions of being used in the average home .. thanks so much for wasting my time and money , I am so thrilled to live in the south and during a time when most tradespeople are booked solid .. thrilled .

received damaged or used has scratches and dents

It was damaged, on delivery. it never came on. The lights lit up, but it never blew any air out.

only had this unit for a little over a year I called the manufacturer because the smart feature of it quit working and was not able to send a technician or even offer parts they're very rude when you call them ready to get off the phone asap $600 unit 1 year warranty
