Great little air conditioner. Cools my living room and then some. Good price too. Wal-Mart was the only place where I found a unit with a remote which was priced under 200 dollars. I actually bought my previous air conditioner at Wal-Mart back in July of 2010. It stills runs. I plan to use the old one in my back room.
Installation was easy and simple , just need a basic tool. It’s pretty cool for a small room. It maintains the temperature very well and the remote is easy to use. Only cons is,The air flow direction cannot be controlled by remote ( only manual ) it stay where you set . Overall running good !
THE AC IS SMALL AND PUTS OUT GOOD AIR AND THE USE OF THE REMOTE MAKES IT MUCH EASY TO USE, THE INSTALLTION WAS EASY AND IT TOOK US ABOUT 30 MINS. TO INSTALLED IT CORRECTLY IN THE WINDOW. THE AC IS NOT NOSEY AT ALL. YOU WOULD LOVE IT AND ITS EFFICENCY.
I bought this because the last 2 yrs my second bedroom on this floor got really hot. My grandson moved in there a couple of months ago. I needed a remote on the one I was going to use. This one is in my room and we put my older one in his. Both of us are happy now
Attractive AC with cool remote. Cools my 10.5'x11.5' bed room well. My longest wall is southwestern exposure with full sun and one of the 10.5' walls is southern exposure, full sun. Noisy compressor the first couple of hours then it got quiet. The remote can be used as the thermostat in the comfort sense mode. This is a very small air conditioner. About the size of a medium microwave. Airflow in cubic feet per minute is 253 on high and 218 CFM on low. That is a lot of airflow for such a tiny machine. So much so it makes it noisy. For comparison a 5000 BTU Frigidare only has an airflow of 140 CFM on high. Midea builds both machines so I have no idea why they want the low speed so much faster and noisier on this model. I don't really notice the noise of the blower in the daytime but at night it draws in my attention. I have to wear earplugs to drown it out. They give you a lot of choices in how you want it to run. You can set it to where the blower continues to run after unit reaches set temperature or you can set it to where the blower shuts down a few minutes after the compressor cycles off. The compressor gives the wall a soft thud when it kicks back on so I prefer to let the blower run until it times out on the timer. Either way it's really noisy for a bedroom and I wear earplugs at night. Almost noisy enough to rip it out and get the Haier. But it's smooth white noise so I guess I can live with it and it cools really sell. Pros. Really attractive. Cool remote. The evaporator and condenser coils were pristine. Yay! Powerful cooling and airflow. Modest vertical air adjustment. Metal tabs installed at the top of the frame rails as a fail safe against frame failure. Amazing airflow straight out and to the left of the machine if you are facing the unit. Dual stage timer. Cons. Airflow to the right of the machine is nonexistent. Can't pull out the air filter! Had to tape a foam filter on the front. $2.99 at your local Ace Hardware. Some small gaps on the front bottom of the machine that I sealed up wit foam. Loud! Hard to grip for installation with smashing up the condenser fins. Needs a metal tab back there Most of the 5000 BTU air conditioners sold in America are manufactured by Midea so there are only a couple of choices in manufactures if you want a 16" wide compact machine. Haier makes a much quieter 5050 BTU model but the air flow is low. They also make GE's 5000 BTU model. Although at Lowes they have two different GE 5000 BTU models one of which is built by Haier and the other by Midea. My installation was tricky A vinyl window with a 17 3/4" opening. Had to build up the outside window sill 3/4" of an inch to keep the weight of the machine off of the window. Then the frame rails had to have 3 1/2" cut off. 90% of the window skirting was cut away. All assembled with supplied frame rails it just barely fit into the 17 3/4" opening. Such a nice fit I can open the top window 10".
Okay for the price. I ordered new but when I took out the box, it had scuffed marks on the bottom like it had been previously used. I messaged customer about it and they refunded 21% of what I paid. Don't know how partial refund is calculated though. Just didn't want to go throw the hassle of returning and getting a new one. All and all it does the job.
Not nearly as quiet as advertised. This unit replaced a 10 year old Whirlpool a/c. The unit shuts off every 5 minutes of operation whether it reached it's temp or not. It also takes excessively long for the compressor to kick in when the temp is much higher than set. This unit is being returned.
I've had this for about 2 months and at first it worked great. A little loud but nothing unbearable, and blew out nice cold air and kept my room (the attic) pretty cool. Now it's gotten insanely loud and no more cold air, just feels like a light breeze on a humid day
I disregarded the prior reviews i had seen regarding this issue however once i got the thing in my window it blew cool air for 3 days and has been blowing slightly cool air ever since. The a/c has essentially turned into a larger and way more expensive fan, very dissatisfied with this product. If i hadnt thrown out the box already this would be on the truck back and id be ordering a new one.
I'm not sure if this is supposed to be happening, but when I have the air conditioner on cool and on dry, the unit will blow cold air for about 2 minutes and then it will make a noise and then blow nothing but hot air, which I think means that it's switching to the fan, but it doesn't show up as switching to the fan. I don't think this is supposed to be happening because from other reviews it seems like everyone is getting a consistent output of cold air.
