I believe it was turned out in the early 80's. I saw it on showtime around 1983 , or 1984. The cartoon art is really old school, but a very realistic feel. I enjoyed the story and the realism . I don't recommend buying this movie for children. I couldn't hurt 18 year olds and up. However it is very sexual, and violent.Very brutal.
Stylish, stunning, a visual roller coaster. A classic animated film that will keep you gripped. Wizards is a wild ride with great storytelling and visuals watch over and over again and find something new every time.
cutting edge animation and artwork for the time. historically significant.
I love this movie when you guys Rock for having it and sending it to me and a short amount of time you guys cool
Had never seen this, I absolutely loved it. Great condition and fast shipping. Looks and plays like brand new.
This movies is very good, a real good price, good delivery time. The only thing I wish different, is that it would be available in Full Screen Version.
The 1st animated movie released in American markets that wasn't feel-good, slapstick goofy family fare. When this movie came out mid-seventies, it shocked movie goers. Parents protested for an R rating, some theaters banned it for the violence (which is fair by today's standards). All of which almost guaranteed a cult-classic following. Ralph Bakshi could only find Hanna-Barberra to produce it, at a time when they were in a slump, it scored record revenue for them. Despite Bakshi's award-winning art work, funding was strained and to wrap the movie, many battle scenes were rendered in H-B's current day cheap tricks (think pre-digital, pre-computer). Regardless, the movie still holds up, many fans delight in spotting 'hidden images' in Bakshi's fantastic artwork. It is quite prophetic in that it starts by stating: 'It all began from 5 terrorists in the middle east...' and that from a time before the overthrow of Iran and America's 1st hostage crisis! Of course I recommend this film as it's message is still relevant, it is still a visual delight, even for those who don't know of it's significance in the history of animation. I only wish it was available on blu-ray.
Wizards is the animated story of two wizard brothers, one who uses magic (Avatar) and one who uses technology (Black Wolf). Black Wolf turned evil and tries to take over the world. Avatar is on the good side. The animation and artwork is astounding. The soundtrack is excellent as well. Bakshi calls this a kids film (rated PG), but I feel it is more along the lines of Lord of the Rings
This movie came out during a late '70s tail-chaser of the Star Wars craze. A somewhat hackneyed and cliché morally ambiguous story of post-apocalypse anti-humanity worldview; and it has a strong anti-technology bias. I thought much of the humour in the movie distracted from what is, essentially, a serious story. This movie came out when I was a teenager and it was excellent for its time and that eager, nerdy demographic. It is an animated film (with interesting use of rotoscoping) but it is not a kids' cartoon. Very violent and gory for sensitive viewers.
I was excited to finally purchase a copy of this movie. It's been decades since I've watched it. Too much disappointment, it is not the movie I had purchased. The case and the disc are both labeled as "Wizards" but thr movie that's on the disc is "Working Girl" with Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford. Decent movie but not the one I purchased. I trust that this will be corrected be someone in a timely manner.
