Purchased a 6oz tube of the Minwax Color-Matched Wood Filler White. My use of this product was for covering nail holes, screw holes, and smoothing out knots/rough patches in 4in x 3/4in new and reclaimed painted white, wood trim. The product comes in a tube with a large screw top/bottom that is easy to remove. The product itself is the consistency of toothpaste, and does a great job at filling in nail, screw holes and smoothing out rough areas. The product is easy to sand, and does finish to a very smooth surface. I did notice that on the larger holes that there is just the slightest hint of shrinkage. On those larger holes beforehand, I expected there to be two rounds of application, so really no disappointment there. Drying time was okay, obviously the smaller the area the faster it dried. 30 min on a small finishing nail hole (4D nail), 1 hour seemed to be the rate an average screw hole would be dried and I personally waited 6 hrs+ on the larger holes. On the smaller holes I would apply the product with my finger, the larger holes I would apply the product to a putty knife then fill the hole. Occasionally, I would have to wipe off the excess if there was any from the area around the hole. The excess was removed easily, and the product wet or dried came off my hands with a paper towel or simple washing of hands. The one disappointment with the product was the color, I purchased the white. The color of the product was no way near that, the actual color was that of a light grayish tan. The product maybe got a little lighter as it it dried but not much. With the color being darker than I expected, I did have to apply 2 coats of touch-up paint to the repaired areas. One coat would of done the job for most folks, but I used two to make sure. I will say that it painted real nice. So overall the product did a great job, and when it was all said it done, you couldn't tell that the area was repaired. I was using reclaimed wood with new wood and after everything was repaired and painted, I couldn't tell you what was new or old. A 6oz tube lasts forever, and the product stays good as long as you screw the lid on tight. One night I left the screw top off, and found it that way 2 days later, I simply punched a new hole in the end where it had dried, and was able to use the rest of the tube. It says you can use this product for exterior, but I would test using it outside before using it for that purpose. Usually interior/exterior products don't cross over very well for exterior applications. So this product will definitely go into my bag of tricks for wood filling and repairing of wood holes.
It's a good product that I use regularly when DIY in my house.
This stuff is like concrete so be careful to not over do it
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am not the handiest of people. I am so happy I used Minwax Color-Matched Wood Filler to fix my wood dining table that had been damaged. The wood filler easily applies with a putty knife onto the damaged area and matched perfectly! It took about 5 hours to completely dry. After it was dried I gently sanded the area and used a matching stain. I am in awe! I can't see any damage at all. This is an excellent wood filler.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Due to years of young children and animals in my house, the floor boards have suffered gouges and scratches. I've never used wood filler before and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to apply. It dried quickly, within a matter of 5 minutes, and is ready to sand. This is now my new “go to” when I need to repair blemished wood.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Minwax is my goto for wood stain. I needed a filler to clean up some seams and nail holes and was worried it would stand out. Of course this filler worked perfectly and matched my stain exactly how I wanted it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this wood filler to fill small holes and gaps in our flooring and baseboards. It was not an exact match to the wood coloring but it was pretty close and it is not noticeable. The wood filler comes out nice and smooth and is easy to use. Once the hole was filled and the filler was dry, I lightly sanded over it. I noticed that it wipes away pretty easily as well before it dries so it probably wouldn't need to be sanded if you wiped the access off as you go. I plan on buying more to match a coffee table we have with scrapes in it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the convenience of a squeeze tube! This product is easy to use, provides great coverage and the color matches perfectly. Having the product in a squeeze tube ensure that it doesn't dry out while keeping it easy to store. I have used it for a kitchen product and I love the results!
I followed the directions on this and it was bad...the filler came off in chunks. i ended up ignoring the directions and just let the filler dry and then had to sand and paint as the solution. Wet sandind didnt work with this product either. Also the white is more off white.
As a non-hardening product, this stuff gets hard a rock. Cannot re-use even after a few days.
