TEAK OIL %26 ANTIQUE DESK

Loretta August 23, 2026

I used it on an antique desk . . . I redo it every couple of years. Just wipe it on. The only thing I don't like is that there is a 'dry' time and depending on the weather, it can take several days.

Easy to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought an old rustic patio set for the fire pit. I decided to spruce it up a bit so I applied Minwax Teak Oil. This is what it looked like after the first coat, I will add another coat for more protection.

Nice Product

Cspierdowis January 10, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am not new teak Oil. Both my husband and older son are wood workers. This teak oil is what we are used to. It's a nice quality oil. Really brings life back into the wood. I love how it brings out the grain of the wood. It has a light odor. Its a nice, clean product. Cap works great, for a nice seal. Overall, everything I was expecting from it. I received this to review but all opinions are honest and my own.

Great wood recovery

amberco55 April 11, 2022

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Minwax brand teak oil has really brought life back to our outdoor swing. I'm glad to know there is a trustworthy product out there that refreshes the color of the wood and restores it back to its natural beauty. It was very easy to apply, and very reasonably priced.

Easy to Use

BarbL December 26, 2022

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this to finish my Christmas band saw deer display. I followed the directions on the product and was very happy with the results. The Oil provided just a little coloring to the wood but still lets the natural wood finish shine through for a nice finish to this piece. The brush that I used was easy to clean up with a little mineral spirits.

Works Well and Easy to Apply

Waxxer September 28, 2020

It's important to know what you expect of your results. All finishes are not the same. Even finishes that are called the same thing may not always work well together. Two different brands of tung oil may not work together or two different brands of teak oil may not work together. Always do a test before using any finish you plan to use especially on a cherished or valuable piece. You should also test your entire process! If you plan to stain, oil, and wax then test that entire process before undertaking your project. I used Minwax Helmsman Teak Oil to refinish a 1916 rifle stock. I was NOT trying to make a furniture quality piece but rather a functional rifle stock that would hold up outdoors in bad weather. I also wanted to preserve the nicks and dings the rifle had acquired throughout it's life. I sanded and cleaned the stock, applied lemon oil, 2 coats of Teak Oil , then waxed. I'm extremely pleased with the results. I'm able to easily see the grain, wear and character of this rifle.

DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE!

Furious With Minwax October 23, 2023

This garbage ruined my teak table! It is extremely misleading to call this product "Teak Oil". It left a glossy, hard, hideous finish that looks like someone slapped a cheap polyurethane on it. The photo doesn't even do justice to how awful the finish is. It looks like it is soaking wet a week later! Now I have to figure out the best way to get this off my very expensive 10 foot teak table without causing even more harm to it. Shame on Minwax for marketing this junk as "Teak Oil'!

Devastated

Bottomturn April 30, 2020

I, too, assumed that this was teak oil. After over 100 hours of lovingly building a custom walnut vanity, I applied this product as directed and destroyed it. It absorbed unevenly and on the denser grain, left a tacky glossy sheen. My only option now is to sand it all off and try again, but my desired natural oiled finish is gone for good. Thanks to Minwax, I have many hours of painstaking labor ahead trying to salvage this piece. Minwax should take this product off the market, or be honest about what it is - a varnish, and not a very good one at that.

poor product and service

RonB May 29, 2025

I did not like the finish. I applied per instructions and it ended up looking like I had put varnish on it. I asked the manufacturer a question and they gave me a lame answer and then shut down the conversation so that I could not discuss further. You try the chat and you get this virtual assistant which is totally useless. I will not be useing this on the rest of my furniture and hope that what I did apply will eventually wear off. Not happy about this at all.
