I used this for some built in closet shelves and stained about 80SF of surface on red oak plywood. The Early American colour is classic and I used the entire can, note 80SF because both sides of the shelving needed staining. I applied it with staining pads, let it sit for about 15 minutes to get the deepest colour, and then wiped the excess with an old t shirt as a rag. Oak is very porous so it took on the stain well and therefore I did not use wood conditioner. I top coated in with Minwax Polyurethane (oil based) 3 coats.sanding very lightly between coast using 220 grit and 0000 steel wool, engage sure to wipe completely clean with tack cloth between coats. Last time I used a 2 in 1 product to stain some oak stair railings but it is just jot the same. This traditional method allows the beautiful wood grain to show through the stain and the result it quote juice. I a. happy I chose this product.
This stain is the prettiest color. It goes on smooth. It's a great product. I use a rag to stain the wood. I do the staining before hanging the boards on the wall.
I like the Minwax Dies. Someone gave me a can of it that was sitting on his shelf for about 10 years. It still worked great. I stained two guitars with that 10 year old can. Then I put on a coat of Polyurethane to give it some shine. It looks great. I have used Minwax since then. That is why I just ordered two more cans. I really like the Gunstock Color. Looking forward to staining another guitar with it.
Color is perfect for my antique spindle chair perfectly! I applied the stain with a soft cotton T-shirt rag. Maybe it’s because the wood is so hard, but the stain has taken days to dry. After the second day I wiped the chair down with another dry, soft rag. All ok…beautiful
I need to retouch some stained doors and could not find Minwax Fruitwood in our area. I was happy to find it through a seller on Walmart. Plus, 1/2 pint--the cans I did find in local stores were quart size, which is more expensive and much more than I need for touch ups. The stain was double boxed and arrived in excellent condition. Received timely.
I've tested it on some random wood. It appears very dark—nearly solid, which is what I wanted. Applies smoothly. Dried evenly.
It's a great product just don't over coat the surface, colors will be a bit off if you do so. Dries fast and matches well with my flooring!
I have been a long time buyer when it comes to any and all of the Minwax products. They make excellent wood stain and Wood finishing products which meet my craft needs.
i do a lot of woodworking. make sure you mix and stir the can well before starti g every time. the pigments sit onnthe bottom. this stain is actually fairly light. its hard to get consistent color onna large project . if you are using multiple cans of the this cherry stain. also remember if using plywood . it oftem comes from different trees so you can expect some differences in how each wood takes the stsin
The stain came out darker than I expected, but it still looks very nice. It works well with pre-stain and was very easy to apply, which I really liked. The color itself is great. I do wish the description showed how it looks on different types of wood, especially pine. Also, the container is very small.
