Mirro Stainless Steel Foley Food Mill

Mirro/Foley Food Mills have been standard kitchen workhorses for generations. Seriously. Your grandmother, great grandmother, and possibly great great grandmother probably had one. Whether it's applesauce, baby food, or tomato sauce, or many other possibilities, this is an easy to use, easy to clean quiet appliance. Example to start you off: Fresh applesauce is a snap with this. Just wash, core, and chunk fresh apples into a pan with enough water so they steam. Cook over medium heat, enough so they steam nicely but don't boil. Once soft, pour them into the food mill placed over a mixing bowl, and start turning the handle. Skin and any seeds you missed stay behind while fresh applesauce lands in the bowl beneath. Season to taste with nothing, a little honey, sugar, or maple syrup, and maybe some cinnamon. If using cinnamon, add it first, then taste. Cinnamon is naturally sweet, and if you have used sweeter apples, you probably won't need any sweetener at all. Tomatoes from your garden or the farmers' market can be processed similarly and turn into smooth sauce ready for seasoning. Once you have had your own fresh, you'll see why people still spend the effort to make their own.

This is a quality food mill. It is heavy duty, well-made and easy to use. I was able to make applesauce quickly and minimal effort.

The handle is very uncomfortable. I had the same item but a different brand and it worked perfectly. We purchased this one and are extremely disappointed. It does not work. The stuff just goes up the side and doesn't get pushed through the great like it's supposed to.

only one plate and seeds plug the holes of the mill. would not recommend

This food mill is terrible. Made from thin cheap metal easily bends. The center spoke where it is attached to the pan bends like tinfoil and binds up the blade. This also drips black mystery fluid into the food. Disappointed.
