Bought for hubby who requested this as a bday gift. He has a couple of this reel and loves it. Good price for a good reel. Wears well and no issues with the line tangling, unlike some other more expensive reels we own. Easy to use and I recommend this for the weekend fisherman without any reservations! One note ... if you plan on heavy fishing, go for a different reel. This is great for pan fishing or small northern/walleye. If you are fishing for large ones, look for a heavier duty reel. We haven't had issues but we don't seek trophy sized fish either!
sturdy old style heavy duty..really like it
Reel works great. Own others in the series and none have disappointed me. Reels in very smoothly and has a good anti-reverse that prevents a lot of loops.
I own one of these reels and I love it, It's quiet and smooth almost too smooth if you can believe that, I primarily bass fish but have been known to catch some big Catfish and Trout on occasions. I use this reel on a 6'6" medium power/ fast action rod and use 12lb NanoFil line. This reel is so smooth on retrieve I can feel every tap of my bait, weather it's a fish strike or just a bump against a stump or rock, when retrieving with baits that don't have a lot of drag it's like it's almost not even there. I'm going to buy three more, one for Braid, one for Fluorocarbon and one for a backup.
I have used Mitchell reels since the 70s when my dad bought my first one. I still have it. Although it caught many fish. It's way past the point of use again. Today Mitchell still has the same quality, and desire to make everyone's fishing trip a success .i will buy three more models this year to round out my update on equipment. For the price you will never find a more loyal fishing companion the the Mitchell reel. Always ready to go, never let you down. Mike Shew. Northern NY.
one of the best fishing fresh water reels on the market
I bought the reel because a lesser brand simply wore out. I still have and use my 300 that I purchased more than 50 years ago and SINCERELY hope the pedigree has endured. I will know in another 50 years or so. Certainly appears well-made and works smoothly now.
He was quite happy with his reels. He hasn't been able to go to the lake to try them yet. We are quite happy with the product. The delivery we can't say the same. They changed the arrival three times and the box was torn.
I have used Mitchell Reels for many years. Nothing is made the way it used to be. My Dad still uses his 308 from back was I was a kid 45 years ago. He fishes primarily salt water. This reel performed very well in freshwater, however, a single use in saltwater turned it in to a noisy piece of equipment. After stripping it down, cleaning it out, and re-lubricating it, the noise is still present. The reel still functions well, but it is very noisy. I have relegated it to fishing salt water only and have purchased another that will never see a salt water environment. Bottom line ... "Great FRESH WATER reel!"
The price was right but the quality is wrong. I am going to spend more to get a good quality reel. This one keeps getting knotted up. It has a choppy weak retrieval. Poor choice. Save your money and get a better one.
