i love the new look but it takes some time to get use to the new money amounts and properties. it is a fun game to play i even got my husband to play and he never plays board games. i'm enjoying my new game.
I bought this game for my brother and his girlfriend. They are both in there early 20's but love the original Monopoly. I saw this game and bought it for a Christmas gift and they both love it! The got a kick out seeing modern play pieces...the here and now properties and the fact everything cost so much more. I have yet to see the original game come down off the shelf since they received this one.
Many of us grew up playing this classic game; and may have even graduated to other editions like deluxe or Monopoly jr, etc etc. Monopoly Here & Now continues to the fine tradition in the Milton Bradley/Hasbro series. While it is strange not buying Board Walk or St. James Place, the essence of the game is not lost. Just multiply everything by 1,000, set up a table with some of your good friends, and enjoy this great game.
We like this game but the money demoninations are so big that it gets a little bit confusing at times. Like for instance if there is a hotel on a property, most of the time the rent is 2 million or more. It's a cool game for adults to play but my grandkids cant"t play it yet.
While I understand that this game is to keep up w/ the times. The places are updated, which is neat. But, especially for kids who are just beginning to play the game........figuring out the money is sometimes a pain, and draws the game out even longer. I guess the plus is that they get used to using those larger numbers! But how many times are you really going to deal w/ millions of dollars???!!! Other than that, it's great, just like the old Monopoly, but updated places and markers---watch out the airplane gashes the board!
This is a great game. Love the modern styling and references. The high money amounts tend to be a little confusing at times for the kids (and my wife, lol), but those amounts make much more sense than the old ones. They did what they set out to do with this game - turned an outdated game and made it relevant to today. I loved playing Monopoly when I was a kid and am now enjoying it with my own kids.
I got this for my 9yr old daughter who wanted the new monopoly so she could buy DisneyWorld. It is the usual monopoly but you are dealing with huge amounts of money! That has made it a bit difficult playing with her, she has no concept of purchasing something for 4 million dollars. Overall, good game, new version.
I bought this for my sons and they quickly became discouraged because of counting the money. With the 1000s, 100,000s, and millions it makes it difficult for them to learn to play if an adult can't help. If you LOVE Monopoly, you will enjoy the game. My kids liked that it had updated properties, but they only played it once. For $5, though, it was quite a deal.
We love the original Monopoly game, so when I heard about Monopoly Here and Now we decided to give it a try. The majority of the game was fine but we found that dealing with the money was just not working out for us. The problem was the high demonations of the money. It was too confusing trying to figure out transactions due to the fact that we were dealing with millions at a time. We are going to stick with the original version.
The idea of an updated Monopoly game with fun travel spots that the family has been too, sounded exciting. This game was the exact opposite. The kids had no idea how to calculate their money due to the fact the bills were in millions and ten-thousands. It got confusing for me even! I would recommend the new credit card Here and Now Monopoly game they offer, because dealing with this much money is very confusing. Having to use a calculator is not my idea of a fun night with the family. I'm sure it's something we all could learn with repetitive use, but we're not even having fun while playing it. My other large complaint was the banker's container, for lack of a better word. Remember, the 7 slotted plastic thingy that kept all the bills tightly in? Unfortunately Monopoly has become cheap in their old age and have included only a 5 slotted money container. So that's right, 2 slacks of money will not fit. You have to put them somewhere else. All in all it was a horrible design. The box is much smaller and the board is folded up in an even square instead of the long folded look, hence saving money on the boxes because it's much shorter. Which of course is why a seven slotted banking container wouldn't fit. Nice huh? To my complete surprise, we exchanged the game for the classic Monopoly only to find the exact same problem! All the new issues of the classic game come in a smaller box, with the board folded up in an small box shape with only a 5 slotted money holder too. I'm very disappointed and wish we kept hold of the "real" monopoly game from years ago. All in all, the classic one we've had so much fun with these past few weeks since Christmas. It's possible we may find try out the credit card version of the Here and Now Monopoly game, but all of us really do enjoy handling the money. It also is good for the kids! I hope this review helped. :)
