Unbeatable performance in its price range! While I only feed it with one sub channel, this Subwoofer can be receive/ passthrough amplified stero signals as input to the sub or RCA passthrough making it work in any configuration you might have! It does require space, an Mono price does have smaller units if space is limited. Speaker is directional with a ground directed port.
I purchase this system with the crazy notion of using it in my musical duo act to enhance the bass drum sound from our drum machine. It worked well, but was not portable enough to carry to our shows. This takes nothing away from the product it's very good, just not practical for our application. Returned it with no hastle what so ever.
This sounds Great, worth the money... My surround sound is complete now.
Good subwoofer. I have rather expensive stereo equipment, and this fits right in. I should mention I use my stereo to listen to music, I don't use music to listen to my stereo. . .
I'm not an expert on subwoofers by any stretch of the imagination, but I do think that they have a very important role in the home entertainment field. I think that these fall into what I consider the under $150.00 category, and I think the next step up would be the $150 to $300 category, after that I think the quality of many subwoofers tend to be higher, just in my opinion, but I'm not an expert this is just my opinion. This subwoofer was very inexpensive and I do have subwoofer in the three categories that I rated them in. This subwoofer is not the best sounding one in this category but on sale it was by far the cheapest, so in my opinion,if your budget is tight, or you just need it for a small room or setup then this might work well for you, but if you can move up in price or you have a larger space you may want to consider buying something else. I think that $300 is about where the and features tend to be more of a overall quality level. But I do think that you can get a good deal depending on your needs at a reasonable price. Like this one. I wrote the same review on the 8 in. model, I have them both, the main difference between the two in my opinion is that the 12 here has more boom , I think better for movies but I would expect that with a 12 in speaker, and I think the 8 in is more musical, that is just my opinion on the two. There are other factors like location and what they're connected to also, so this is just based on my particular experience. Hope this is helpful for someone.
I researched the heck out of this, and this model is supposedly a pretty good sub-woofer for reasonable price, but I found the instruction manual very difficult to comprehend. Furthermore, I only one have one RCA line out of my tuner, and the manual didn't explain a simple one-line connection for a home theater setup. Weird. Come to find out, you can just plug the line into either the left OR right port and it propagates the sound to both jacks. But it would have been great to say this somewhere. Would have saved me several days of pestering friends who know WAY more about this stuff than me.
Tech support was no help. They would not even admit I had a problem. I needed to use the auto-on switch in the on position so it would not go into standby if there was no bass signal. The on position was no different then the auto position. They even wanted me to wiggle the switch, really?
Buyer beware. This unit is known for having quality control problems. I found an article from 2016 mentioning QC issues, and Monoprice STILL hasn't fixed their QC problems. Unbelievable! Also, this unit is not a true subwoofer according to Erin's Audio Corner. The unit is apparently a mid-bass module due to lack of output below 50 Hz. Although Monoprice website says freq response starts at 25 Hz, the user manual that came in my box says 50 Hz! Yet another red flag. Also, I find it odd that I cannot find a serial number on the unit. Seemingly everything in this day and age has a serial number. Also, the unit comes with a double pronged RCA cable, but the cable is useless if you have a modern receiver; you will need to buy a separate RCA Y cable. So annoying! If Monoprice is going to include a cable, include one that most people will need eg the RCA Y cable! I tried a single-pronged "subwoofer cable" that works on another subwoofer of mine, but the single-pronged cable did not work in the Monoprice. Even after I bought a RCA Y cable, the subwoofer would not work properly with my AVR! I asked my AVR company, and they were perplexed too. BTW, I'm not a newbie. I've set up multiple subwoofers before. Furthermore, the unit is warped or something because it does not sit on the ground evenly. I have reached out to Monoprice support many times, and they have been a nightmare to deal with! This company is a hot mess, and it really needs to get its act together. Walmart was not helpful either. I never write reviews, but I gave Monoprice (and Walmart) so many opportunities to do the right thing, but they didn't. Even if one gets what one pays for, one should not be stuck with a piece of junk. Even if you get a unit that has zero problems, it is not worth more than $50. If you are going to roll the dice with this unit, be prepared to return it (a literal pain in the buttocks) promptly!
Speaker arrived smelling of mold/mildew. One of the speaker connections is broken. Walmart website says returnable to store. Store refused return. I can't speak to the sound quality. I don't recommend.
Dead on arrival. Told to return by Monoprice technical support. Very heavy would not fit in my car. Returned to Walmart on Friday the 15th. Still waiting for return to show up in their system.
