I've purchased several Monoprice "Indigo" brand guitars, and I've been totally impressed with each one! They're solid instruments. My one complaint is the lack of side dressing the frets. They arrive with sharp ends and need to be ground down to be smooth. A Dremel tool does the job. As a melody or lead player, I also swap out the strings with .008s. The tuning gears seem to hold tunings nicely. Fit and finish is very good. Spend too much more than this and you're just buying high end furniture.
I ordered the natural color as something to play around with having never tried to play guitar before. It looks great in person and is made of three pieces of wood joined evenly as thirds of the guitar body, and good chunks of it you can't tell where the joins are between pieces because the grain aligns. Mine doesn't have any defects that I can tell and sounds great. I've tried some basic setup steps based on internet searching and overall am very pleased with the product.
This guitar was another great one from Indio by Monoprice----I've got a Boardwalk in Trans Red--a Retro in Cream finish--a Cali in Arctic White--a Retro DLX Plus Ash body in Natural--and finally this Retro DLX Plus in Ash Natural--All of them have been very satisfying guitars for me in playability and looks---They all needed me to do a host of setup type tweaks and personal adjustments to get them optimized but they all responded well to the treatment and now I would compare their sound quality and playability to guitars many times the price of the Indio---And this last one I was able to get on Monoprice "Halfway2BF" sale and for someone like me on limited income and usually lots of bills this is a very attractive point to be able to get a guitar that will give me pleasure to play and won't break the bank to do it--Very satisfied with the build quality-- frets were nicely done--one thing though it came with only 2 tremolo springs I like 3 on mine and going straight across where they had the 2 set in a delta fashion---overall great stuff Thanks to Indio Thanks to Monoprice--Now I kind of have a hankerin' for the Retro Dlx in Cherry Burst or CaliDLX in Cherry Burst but my sister would kill me if I do---We'll see---Thanks for the guitar--Thanks for the deal--Of course shipping was great too no damage---Sincerely, Mark Holmes
I really like this guitar. The neck and fretboard are high quality and the ash body looks great and has an excellent finish. The Wilkinson bridge tremolo feels good and solid. I like the way this style of saddle hold the string positively. The tone is warm like a genuine fend strat sounds. The electronics are good and very clean sounding. The hardware feels good and high quality. The tuners are fine and seem to hold tune reasonably well. The guitar looks and plays like a more expensive instrument. I?ve played guitars that cost double what I paid for this indio that were half the quality.
Bought this during the Thanksgiving sale at $183 + tax. This was my 4th Indio guitar purchase after their Indio Cali Classic, Retro Classic, and the Boardwalk deluxe. I have been impressed and rated every one of those guitars a 5-star - not because they were perfect; far from it - there were some obvious flaws - some that I could fix on my own, and some that I could live with. But in each one of those instances, they represented a great value for the $ paid. The Cali DLX on the other hand left me completely speechless from the moment I unpacked it. The fret ends were dressed, no warping of the neck, no intonation issues, no cosmetic blemishes. I wasn't able to spot a single flaw that I could use as justification for the bargain price I paid. This is a great guitar - period. Other reviewers have already posted detailed point-by-point reviews of this guitar, and the fact that they have spent as much time and attention to the review indicates how much they thought this guitar was worthy of such investment. Perhaps I was just lucky with the piece that I got. All in all, this will stay with me as part of my core collection of guitars that I will enjoy playing, hopefully for a long while. To all the people who lent a hand in building this guitar - a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Out the box.... beautiful! Gave it a slight tuning and plugged it into the amp, happy! Don't read the reviews saying change the swicthes, pots, etc. Just play it! ?The tremelo bridge sells for almost $70 online and you would need to install it and have it properly set up. Comes with great strings and a nice padded gig bag! Take it to a local guitar shop and ask them to show you a similar guitar, equipped the same, and include a decent gig bag for this price. I was going to order the matching "Tele" but they were sold out, and I wanted to use my coupon. Monoprice is the only place for awesome reasonably priced guitars. Put it in the cart and buy it!
Amazing guitar for the price. The natural color of the wood not like the picture when I ordered but not a big deal. The pickups sound pretty good. The tremolo bar system is weird with no threads and not holding the bar at all. The nut was cut way too short and I will have to replace it. Good guitar to play some Dire Strait!
the guitar is fine. But the monoprice Cali shown on your web site shows the pickup covers and knobs being a cream color but the guitar I received has pure white knobs and covers. I feel it is a misrepresentation.
It is tough finding ash bodied instruments these days - and this one is both beautiful and feels very comfortable. The Wilkinson trem is a dream, hardware an upgrade from Classic series - and tone is warm and thick. The neck is smooth, frets are great, and needed just a bit of setup!
My guitar has really bad buzz sound even if I am touching strings. I wonder, has anyone else experienced this too?
