I was pleasantly surprised on the overall quality! Sound quality is good and very sold feel when you are holding the mic, well made!

It's a stunner!

Anonymous January 17, 2021

It comes in a heavy-duty case and delivers that Memphis sound straight out of the box. The only downside is it won't work with most mic stands due to the XLR jack being too close to the treads. You'll have to remove the star fitting that tightens mics up. Luckily I had one but most folks don't have old stands sitting around as I do. The mic is also very heavy so keep that in mind if you're looking for a stand.

Feeling Un-Shure?

Anonymous July 22, 2020

If you're looking for that retro-classic look, and you want a dynamic mic that you're not going to freak out about getting beer on at your gig, then this mic is most definitely for you. You wanna get all fancy and put it through a tube amp and warm up that tone? It'll do that, and sound lovely. Other reviews say you have to know how to sing into this mic, and that's 100% true. You can't just mash your big dumb face into it and scream at the top of your lungs hoping to sound like...anything. Not that you'd do that...! Anyway, it's a lovely addition to any mic locker. Properly used I think you could do a lot worse for the money.

Impressed with the quality to price factor

Anonymous April 20, 2020

First of all some advice for people that buy this.... DO NOT USE a "clutch" type stand with this mic it is VERY heavy. I wouldn't recommend a boom style stand either. Use a good old-fashioned straight stand (without the adapter ring). I saw people mention in reviews that the mic was too "quiet". This is a Lo-Z (low impedance) mic, so if you plug it into an amp directly, you will need to use a line matching transformer because guitar amp inputs (1/4") are Hi-Z inputs. So don't "cheap out" and buy an XLR-to-1/4" cable and expect good results. The mic sounds excellent. It seems to have a pretty large diaphragm, so you will get pops and sibilance if you get too close, but this is easily remedied with a pop filter or by learning proper mic technique. If the mic is used and handled properly you will not have a problem. The sound is very transparent and works well as a vocal mic or ambient room mic. It isn't on par with some of my other mics, but I paid several times more than I paid for this, so I would expect that they sound several times better. Overall, if you need a decent "all around" mic and you are on a budget...buy this!

Retro look

Sheldon R August 16, 2021

Coupled this with a chrome Atlas straight stand and chrome 6? gooseneck (to move it out a bit, so my bass doesn?t bump into it). The total package gives me the look I was going for. Mic itself suffers from some ?POP?. Might open it up and add a thin layer of foam. As of now I just back off a bit. Pretty happy with it and I get a lot of comments. Our female vocalist keeps trying to take it from me !

Decent Condenser Microphone

Anonymous August 6, 2020

Very stylish and well constructed. Comes in a nice plastic case with fitted foam inserts to hold it securely in transit. It is a dynamic condenser microphone ands has its limitations. Lots of mid range and significant high end but very little bottom. Sound field is very directional and short. Make sure you have a sturdy stand with a heavy base. The Memphis Blue is easily toppled if you don't set it up correctly. Decent microphone for the money. Won't replace an SM58 or my Heil ribbon microphone.

Gorgeous classic look and sounds good too.

Anonymous June 14, 2021

I use this in my music room for testing acoustic amps. I looks great on a chrome stick stand. My only issue is the female XLR jack in the bottom of it is too close to the mounting hole so there is interference on some of my larger XLR cable connectors. So I have to select a certain style cable from my stash to fit it into the mike when it is stand mounted.

Good microphone but poor quality control

BDAllen March 5, 2018

I like the design, but the hardware used is horrible. There is a giant nut at the swivel point that looks much larger in person than in the pictures (they used more than one microphone to make pictures on the website). There are a number of stains in the chrome that look like water spots that won't polish out; there is also a deep scratch that appears to have been made before the plating process. If I had seen one in person I would have never bought it. I can't get in contact with the company to return it, so it was sold at a $30 loss. Never again with Monoprice!

Looks good. Sounds meh.

singproinc July 9, 2020

This is a big, heavy, shiny microphone. It sounds pretty bad on voice. When compared with other microphones of average quality, it lacks low end and is brittle in the voice range, so it doesn't even have dynamic warmth from proximity effect going for it. It sounds like there is an impedance problem, if you're familiar with that sound. The big shiny metal screen is totally useless for stopping P's from popping ("plosives"). The XLR connector is so close to the mic stand that it doesn't allow it to get near the lower section of any microphone stand. I tested it using quality mic pre's on the same sound source at the same time, recorded into Logic, then compared through Genelec monitors and Foster headphones. But, it is a big shiny microphone. And heavy. It's under $50. Use it for music videos like I plan to. You'll get a reference audio track out of it you can use for sync purposes, but not one you will use in a mix. Pros: Big. Shiny. Heavy. Cons: sounds pretty bad.
