Heavy Ash Twanger!

Victor February 8, 2023

I love it! First guitar purchase from Walmart and I never thought…Heavy solid ash wood and a perfect setup, which is hard to get out of a 3 brass saddle bridge. Intonation is spot on right up to the 12th fret and beyond. Action is low enough without any fret buzz. The Wilkinson pickups are balanced and VERY twangy. This is my 6th Indio and Monoprice purchase as I have 2 other guitars and 3 tube amps and they make a great product but Walmart made it better with a flawless purchase process and super fast shipping. I chose Walmart over Amazon for this purchase and may do it more in the future. Thank you WM!

Really great quality for the money! Great bang for the buck! Don't expect an Am. Standard and you won't be disappointed!

Anonymous April 13, 2020

Wow! I received this guitar a few days ago and am totally impressed with the work Monoprice/Indio put into creating such a lovely instrument. I can't stop playing it! This guitar is easily worth 2X's what Monoprice is asking and the quality is on par or superior in many ways to similar Mexican made guitars! Upon inspection mine has a two piece ash body, which looks much better than the one in the pictures on the monoprice website-(which looks like 3 piece body). The cavity under the pickguard is routed only big enough for one single coil pickup. It comes installed with 2 full size 250k alpha pots. The bridge is much better than I anticipated it being and won't need replacing, perhaps I'll replace the saddles with brass compensated ones but that is a personal preference, the ones they provide are working just fine. And the neck is AMAZING! No fret sprout, all frets were leveled nicely and the satin finish on the back of the neck has a really nice feel to it. The pickups are ceramic but quite decent and provide a nice tone, not overly twangy or icepicky, but nice, a good bluesy tone. Also, the intonation was almost perfect and that is quite remarkable given the vintage style saddles this comes with. I already replaced the tuners as I refer locking tuners. The ones provided seemed ok but not great. That's not a big deal, most if not all guitars at this price point will need them replaced. The 3-way switch, works fine but feels flimsy. I will probably replace it in the future. Again not a big deal, as it is NOT an absolute necessity that it be replaced. The fretboard was pretty dry and needed some lemon oil. The frets were sandpapery and in need of a quick fret polish and now they are smooth like butter and easy to play and bend on. So 20 to 30 minutes of work replacing the tuners, polishing the frets and hydrating the fretboard and now this is a high quality gig worthy instrument! I also own an Indio Cali Classic Strat, which I love but needed a lot of work and parts replaced to make it the great guitar it is now. So I wasn't sure what to expect and was curious what the quality would be for a guitar more than double the price of the Indio Cali Classic when I bought this one, and to my surprise I am just Absolutely Blown Away by the quality of this guitar! Highly recommend!

Great guitar at an affordable price.

StevenG October 3, 2022

I have just started playing guitar again after 50 years in order to be able to play together with my grandson. This guitar is really nice for the price. Everything about it is great. No problem fret ends or any ather issues you'd expect from a guitar at this price. My first one came thru with a defective switch. Monoprice customer service was awesome. They emailed me an RMA to return it and sent me a replacement very quickly. I love their products and customer service.

Very nice for the price!

RickM May 16, 2023

The guitar and gig bag are nice. It's not a $1,000 guitar, but for under $200's, this is a very nice E. Guitar for any beginner or intermediate player that wants a different look and sound. It is a heavy guitar because of the Swamp Ash but the finish is beautiful and it is very playable without any modifications.

So nice I bought it twice

LarryS December 25, 2022

I purchased the blonde Retro DLX plus a couple of months ago when it was on sale for $140. I wanted a maple neck / maple fret board and was willing to not get the string through body. Most people say this but I could not believe how great this guitar felt right out of the box. I had gotten a black Indio Boardwalk guitar about a month earlier that also exceeded my expectations but this Retro was at anther level. The maple neck / fretboard was better than expected. It plays great, sounds great and stays in tune pretty well. When it went on sale again for $130 I bought another one as a Christmas present. The second one was also perfect out of the box. The SoCal luthier has been on point on the guitars I have received from Monoprice. I have also purchased a couple of the stage right 5 watt tube amps that I love, the 1x12 cabinet, a bunch of cables and all the pedals. I can not say enough about how impressed I am with the quality of all products I have received.

Absolutely amazing

RIPS March 10, 2023

Compared to the famous brand, this guitar rocks! For the $$ you can't build a partscaster of this quality for the price. Very happy. One thing though, the master luthier that sets this up is drunk and snorting yayo. There are adjustments I had to make that never should have escaped the master luthier. Very happy with the purchase, don't hesitate to buy this.

Great guitar, but HEAVY!

MarkC December 9, 2022

Very heavy guitar at 10 pounds! Didn't realize ash was so dense! Arrived with some cosmetic issues but nothing to cry about for the price. But it plays well after a bit of a set up, sounds fantastic and has sustain for days! Neck is a fuller profile but fits my hand nicely. I gave this 4 stars really only because of the weight factor. At nearly 2 pounds heavier than my Les Paul I wouldn't want to gig with it!

I like the guitar. It sounds good, plays well out of the box, and looks as expected (as the pictures showed). It arrived on time - actually I think it may have come a day early. I have only 1 complaint of the guitar: the nut wasn?t installed true in the slot. It?s shifted over to the 1st string side of the fretboard slightly leaving a void in the slot on the low E string side of the fretboard. I feel like the strings are therefore shifted slightly to the 1st string side. If I weren?t expecting to change the plastic nut for one of bone I would probably contact customer service to request correction. Otherwise I enjoy playing it.
