Used this product for years with my water softener. Love the Walmart pick up program. Beats lugging the heavy product with a cart through the store. I would recommend not using Walmart free shipping. They box each bag (which has to be more expensive for Walmart. I'm in favor of taking that cost out of the system. Not only is that more expensive for Walmart, it is more work for you unboxing
Product works well and as expected. I'm glad that these water softening salts have been consistently in stock at Walmart for several months now; prior to that this was frequently out of stock or low in quantity, which was disappointing as I use it regularly. I generally buy several bags at a time to avoid running out. Because the bag is 40 pounds, the plastic handle breaks sometimes. It's nice that Walmart offers two-pack quantities for future use.
We have been using Morton's water softener salt for years without any issues. Picking up these bags is fairly easy and also carry with the built-in handles (keep in mind they're still 40 lbs each!), and the perforation allows for easy opening without using any tools and pouring directly into the brine well.
Was using the Diamond brand pellets since it was a couple dollars cheaper per bag. However, I found the whole-home water filter was getting clogged, and sediment accumulating at the bottom of the water filter bowl. The clogged filter reduced water pressure in the plumbing which meant longer to get hot water at the faucet when washing hands or dishes, the toilets took longer to refill, and there was popping noises from the water heater (which was inspected when replacing the sacrificial rod to see there were no hardened deposits inside that would heat irregularly). Had the city water inspector at the house, and he said the sediment was not coming from the city water, and it was either the residue from the softener pellets, or the rhyolite beads inside the water software might be dissolving (disintegrating). Replaced with Morton, went through a couple bags of Morton to ensure the Diamond got washed out of the water softener (the water filter was after the softener), and no more sediment, and many months before the filter got clogged, but it would get scheduled for replacement before then. All the plumbing problems disappeared when switching from Diamond to Morton, so Morton is obviously a lot cleaner than Diamond. Morton is a bit more expensive, but filters aren't free that had to get replaced at far shorter intervals when using Diamond. Morton solved the sediment problem, so no having to replace the water softener as a shotgun troubleshooting step to see if that was the cause of the sediment. Don't need the variety that removes iron deposits since it isn't a problem in my area, but the aquifers in our area have high hard water, so a water softener is essential. Our city gets their water from the aquifers, but no softening before delivery to customers. Everyone in our area needs a water softener (for indoor plumbing only, not for the pipes to the outdoor faucets used to water the lawn). The quality (cleanliness) of the softener pellets affects how much, if any, sediment you end up in your indoor plumbing, and Morton is cleaner than Diamond.
I have trusted this brand with my hard water problems for over 20 years. I have never had any issues with my water softener equipment since using it. These bags are really heavy. Very ackward to lug around. The handle is firmly attached and the plastic is heavy duty. i have not had any trouble with the bags breaking . i suggest having these delivered. The older I get, the heavier they seem.
for use in water softeners. We had the tech come do the annual check up and he recommended pellets instead of granular, so we have been using these. They are always in stock, a great price, and walmart delivers with walmart so I don't even have to go pick them up! These are perfect and make it one less thing I have to deal with.
Getting rock salt with the WM pickup service was great and easy. Rock salt is never fun to carry so this helped m. As with most rock salt bags the “tear here to open” line was not quite easy to tear open. Ended up using a knife. Poured easy once opened and salt was clean and white
These are as good as any softener salt other than the shipment I received had some blocking where it looks like moisture got inside the plastic bag somehow and I had fist size blocks, a few of these in some of the bags. I ordered 10 bags and experienced about 4 of these fist size blocks of stuck together pellets. That is my only quality control issue. They work fine in my softener barrel. I broke up the blocks back into smaller sizes so, workable.
I watched my computer and when they said it was going to be delivered I went outside and the Wal Mart Driver showed up and he actually unloaded them (40 pounds) into my garage so I did not hwat to carry them, 70 years old, so the driver was very helpful and a true gentleman.
So I ordered 6 bags I have had 3 deliveries an I have 3 bags of the 6 so far and their saying 1 has been delayed. It's been 10 days since I ordered absolutely ridiculous. I new better though I have problems every time I try Walmart.i will not try again.
