We live in south Texas where mosquitoes are so aggressive they make you beg for a drought. But the rain always comes and the little buggers cloud the air. We've tried sprays, candles and chemicals, but they never really work. Because of this, I wanted a Mosquito Magnet Executive (MME). The MME comes with everything you need except a propane tank. It uses the standard 20 pound tank that almost every home propane grill uses, so if you don't already have a tank, finding one is not a problem. Assembly was easy – literally took less than one minute. After charging the battery I inserted it into the MME and placed the unit in a corner of the yard. After attaching the propane tank I started the unit by pressing the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds. Already the mosquitoes were out and swarming. Thirty minutes later I went to back check the status of the unit. The MME was running perfectly and mosquitoes were already in the trap. This morning I went out to check results. A hundred or more. As I write this, I estimate that number has now grown to over 300 in less than 24 hours. While I'm amazed at this Mosquito Magnet, I'd drop it down to 4.5 Stars for two things. First, the unit comes with just one Octenol package included. For the price I'd like to see my first summer of Octenol included. The other thing that concerns me is the Bug Bag feels like it's made with cheaper plastic than I might have chosen. It will be interesting to see how long that part lasts – I could be wrong. Overall, this is an impressive machine. While it doesn't kill the mosquitoes outright, they do die quickly in the heat of the day while trapped in the Bug Bag. We spent the evening outside tonight and weren't bothered at all by the little monsters. As I said, the Mosquito Magnet Executive has given us back our yard.
We really needed this to work. I have tried spraying the shrubs and trees around the house, using lawn pest killers, and bug zappers with some success. Every summer it's the same thing where nobody wants to be outside too long because we get eaten alive. So far I am very impressed. Only had this running for a week and already we are seeing the bug bag filled with I would say over a thousand mosquitos. What's great about this model is one battery charge and we should be good all summer. The only thing to keep in mind is you will have to replace a full propane tank about once a month and you need to buy more of the inserts that help attract the mosquitos. It's all worth it with the results I've seen so far though! It is not noisy at all. We keep ours near the shed by the woods which are closest to our deck. Placement is critical to the success of how effective it will work. It should not be placed in direct sunlight and I have found that keeping it close to the area we spend most of our time makes most sense.
This is one very serious weapon in the war on mosquito eradication. It works exceptionally well. It's also simple to assemble and put into use. I am not the handiest person, but I still managed to go from un-opened box to fully operational in less than 20 minutes. Once I tested it out, I turned it off and fully charged the battery (I couldn't tell how much of a charge was left when I opened the package - at least it was enough to test out the unit). Operation itself is pretty much as simple as pushing a button. If you live in a mosquito riddled area, run an outdoor bistro or maybe a child care center with an outdoor playground, this mosquito trap could be a great tool for you. If you live in a residential area where mosquitoes are a minor inconvenience, keep in mind that this will work, but you will still need to supply a new attractant tab and tank of propane about every three weeks (if you use one of those handy propane exchange services, keep in mind that pre-filled tanks are usually NOT fully filled, so you may run out of propane more quickly than predicted). Those are expenses that make sense under the right circumstances, but maybe not for everyone. In short, a great and easy to use product for the correct application.
Mosquito Magnet Executive USA Trap Look out all you mosquitoes, it's time to meet your maker this is not your typical mothers fly swatter. This baby is a high tech mouse trap but for bugs. We wanted an alternative to having a service spray insecticide all over our backyard and home to control mosquitoes. Although they claimed the spray was safe we were concerned about the long term effects on our family and pets. Last month we cancelled the insecticide service, and installed an Executive Model Mosquito Magnet. So far we just love it. Being battery powered is a big plus, as we can place it anywhere in our yard. The automatic energy saving features is terrific. The best part is that we have been able to enjoy our yard without having to worry about toxic chemicals. The Mosquito Magnet is controlling the mosquitos in our yard as well as, or better than the insecticide spray. We are very happy with this product and have not problem recommending it to others. Easy to set up and began working in day one. After only 2 weeks the Mosquito Magnet Executive has made our outdoor time enjoyable. We have gone from not being able to enjoy our deck, or work in our garden, to having NO mosquito bites. WOW, Thousands of dead mosquitos piled inside, very cool. I have to admit I was shocked by how many there actually were in there. I highly recommend this product
Mosquito Magnet Executive Mosquito Trap - Advanced mosquito defense system - This is an amazing device! I highly recommend it! It works great! I worked with the West Nile Virus Surveillance Program as a field researcher for a number of years. We utilized homemade mosquito traps made from PVC tubes, nets, with battery powered fans, and chunks of dry ice to produce CO2 to attract female mosquitos. The dry ice we used sublimated overnight. We trapped substantial quantities of mosquitos but didn't make a dent in the entire local population as we only trapped one night every week during our mosquito season in the NorthEastern US, June through October. Our program did not seek to eliminate or reduce mosquito populations locally. We trapped and tested mosquitos for the single purpose of determining if the local mosquitos tested positive for West Nile Virus. Even those homemade traps proved that CO2 works as an attractant for mosquitos. With the homemade traps utilized in the surveillance program, I've had nets with 10 to over 300 mosquitos trapped from only one nights trapping. I set traps in 3 different locations within a county each week. Some of those areas had a much higher population of mosquitos than the others. Mosquito populations can vary widely according to location. Employing propane to continuously produce CO2 for dramatically prolonged trapping periods is genius. One gallon of propane contains 36 cubic feet of gas and over 100 cubic feet of CO2 (every cubic foot of propane gas produces 3 cubic feet of CO2). Beyond the CO2 attractant, this trap also utilizes a Mosquito magnet Octenol biting insect attractant packet cartridge. Cartridges should be replaced every 21 days. Replacement cartridges can be purchased online or in store for between $7 to $9 each, most are offered in multi-packs. Two cartridges are included with the purchase of the trap. This trap is simple to set up. No tools are required. It takes only 4 steps to assemble, including charging the battery. The actual assembly of the trap takes far less than 5 minutes to complete. The support pole and trap power head have different sized grooves on them making it impossible to put them on backwards. The battery must be charged indoors. A remote battery charger and rechargeable battery are included with the purchase of the trap. One battery charge should last an entire season under normal conditions. This trap is cordless. You can place this trap anywhere in your yard without being restricted or limited to areas that have immediate access to an outdoor electrical receptacle. There is an opening under the front of the trap power head that you can utilize as a handle of sorts to easily pull your trap to a new location. This trap is very light weight and easily moved. Tilting the trap too high while moving it will result in the back of the trap stand contacting the ground. For optimal trap placement in your yard, mosquito magnet offers an instructional video on their website. If you choose to move your trap once the propane tank is installed, the propane tank must be disconnected and removed to avoid damage to the regulator and trap before moving the trap. It was early in the mosquito season when I set this trap up. Mosquitos trapped steadily increased from night to night. By mid season, mid summer, I anticipate trapping substantial numbers of mosquitos on most nights. Manufacturers predict you'll experience noticeable results in 7 - 10 days. The manufacturer also predicts that the entire local mosquito population in your yard will decline in 4 weeks. My experience predicts the manufacturers predictions are well within viable expectations. Mosquitos are very weak fliers. Mosquitos hide from rain on the underside of leaves and such to avoid being struck by raindrops. While mosquitos have the potential to fly for miles, most mosquitos usually fly no more than a several hundred foot radius during a nights feeding period. Predators, such as mosquitos, may try to take advantage of the decrease of competition in a trapping area but they will fall victim to the trap eventually as well if they do come into your yard. While no device known to man can completely eliminate mosquitos, I suspect a cascade effect will result by eliminating gravid mosquitos as only female mosquitos feed on blood thus reducing the number of mosquito offspring overtime. Female mosquitos are attracted by CO2, not light, as CO2 is usually exhaled by mammals, their primary food source. Female mosquitos can drink up to three times her body weight in one night. The more female mosquitos you eliminate today, the less mosquitos will be born next week. This trap offers several different operational modes. You can set the trap to run 24/7 or select any of the offered 4 fuel saving modes. The fuel saving mode of operation will stop propane use in the middle of the day and night as research has shown that mosquito activity is typically lowest during those times. The smart technology system automatically learns the cycles of day and night within a 24 hour period while in fuel saving mode. A photo light sensor allows the trap to learn and adjust shut down periods for your yard. The trap has a temperature sensor that can be used to put the trap is standby mode when the outdoor air temperature falls below the user selectable set point. Research shows that mosquito activity drops precipitously below 50 degrees Fahrenheit in most locations. I highly recommend this device. Not only are mosquitos annoying but they may carrying diseases like West Nile Virus, Zika virus, Chikungunya virus, dengue, and malaria. The less mosquitos we have buzzing around our homes the safer we are while outside, especially our children. If we could put one of these traps in every backyard everywhere, our picnics, BBQ's, kickball games, times around the fire pit, and even mowing our yards would be a lot more pleasant, healthier, and safer. Bug zappers and other such devices do not attract mosquitos. Those devices only attract bugs that are attracted to light, like moths. Mosquitos are not attracted to light. Female mosquitos are attracted to CO2. Male mosquitos do not feed on blood. Male mosquitos do not bite you. Male mosquitos feed on nectar, aphid honeydew, and plant juices. Forget about citronella candles and all that foolishness. This trap effectively attracts, traps, then kills female mosquitos. Utilizing CO2 to attract and trap mosquitos is a proven effective technology. This trap has taken continuous CO2 baiting to the next level. I don't know if large scale commercial or industrial sized models of this device are available or would help civilizations that live in tropical mosquito infested areas who suffer from debilitating mosquito borne disease but it would be well worth trying. If anybody reading this review knows Bill Gates, suggest it too him. Other than changing the Mosquito Magnet Octenol biting insect attractant packet cartridge every 21 days, this trap is a set it and forget it type deal. If you empty out the dead mosquitos you've trapped and killed when needed, you're good to go. Experience will tell you how often the net requires being emptied in your yard over time. Every location will be different. You can easily see how full the trap net is through the transparent cover on the trap power head. The net is located near the top of the trap and easily removed to empty then reinstall. One propane tank should last you an entire season. This trap uses the same 20 lb propane tank as your charcoal grill. It doesn't come with a propane tank included with the trap purchase. You can either swipe the propane tank from your grill or head over to Walmart to get a new filled tank to use exclusively this summer with your trap. I love my Mosquito Magnet Executive Mosquito Cordless Trap. You should get one too!
It took a 6 weeks for Executive Mosquito Trap to arrive after I ordered it. No big deal as it was offered toward the end of march when no mosquitos are present here in Michigan. As it is just (finally) warming, up the mosquito activity won't pick up for several weeks; I'll give an update at the end of July. The machine arrived in good condition as it was very well packaged and against the rigors of shipping. All of the parts were included. however some of the parts were lose and not attached, contrary to descriptions in the owner's manual. So some purchasers, who are not careful in sorting through the parts, may jump to the false conclusion that they are missing a part. That said the instructions in the owners manual are mostly understandable. My only problem was not being able to follow the instructions to complete the procedure for cold weather shutdown. Assembly was easy. I charged the battery for 24 hours as instructed. I found a spot to put the trap as per the instruction manual – 30 feet, up wind and made sure the resting place was level. I then installed a 20 pound propane gas tank and turn the gas on SLOWLY. Then I followed the start up instructions and all went well. After the start up, I programed it for a short shut down every day and night. That process was very easy as the screen confirmed each step and it was easy to determine that the process was done successfully. However, as stated earlier, the same did not hold true for the cold weather shut down. I followed the instructions but the screen read out was not helpful in confirming that the process was successful and in fact created confusion. Other than that, everything was well, went well and was easy. The unit is sturdy enough and well designed. I really like the battery operation which eliminates the hazard of having to run an electric extension cord across the lawn. It looks just as advertised so I didn't see the need for attaching a picture. This unit carries a high price tag; if it works well and will continue working over several years it will be worth the money. As promised, I intend to post a follow up report in a few months.
Mosquito Magnet Executive Version: The unit arrived in a large box that announced the contents on all sides, so beware of porch pirates. Very easy to set up in 7-10 minutes. After use for 3 weeks, the propane and the rechargeable battery were ready for recharging. During the battery recharge and the tank exchange, the catcher was emptied. It had quite a few mosquitos in it, but I was anticipating more, since we are constantly being bitten when in the yard. There was no need for any interaction with the Magnet during the first weeks. Everything ran smoothly for 3 weeks. During the initial setup, the included attractant “Octenol” was used per instructions. The attractant helped lure the pesky critters to the catcher. Refills for this attractant are a bit pricey, so look around for special pricing. The base that holds the propane tank was broken in one area due to shipping damage but did not affect the operation of the Mosquito Magnet. Overall, the Executive model is quite nice, but in comparison to the other versions available at half the price, I would direct my attention to the Plus model and save quite a bit of money, unless you truly need the rechargeable abilities versus plugin.
The Mosquito Magnet is a quiet, clean and effective way to rid your yard of biting mosquitoes. It turns propane into carbon dioxide and along with an attractant draws mosquitoes into a trap where they die. It is clean and neat and sits out of the way in your yard. It has one small led light and it emits a very low level hum. You will have to refill the propane tank about once a month as well as replace the attractant every three or four weeks. The reason I only gave it four stars was that I had a problem with it running several hours and then shutting itself off. The problem seems to have been resolved. If I have no more issues I will give it five stars. I will say that they have the best customer service department that I have dealt with in a long time.
I have only been using this a couple of weeks so far. The bugs have not been out a lot so far this year, but so far this has been doing a pretty good job so far. Even though we have some standing water it has been keeping the yard fairly bug free. It seemed it took awhile to start attracting and catching the bugs. Hopefully it keeps working once Summer comes.
I was given this to test. I live on a small farm and was really excited at the idea of getting this device. Mosquitoes here can be terrible so I really wanted this to work. It did not! I followed all the instructions and even looked at videos to be sure that I was doing everything right (it is not all that complicated). I let it run 24 hours a day. First I started by placing it on my rear deck about twenty feet from a 50gal water troth with visible signs of mosquitoes. I let it sit there for three or four days. Then I moved it to my back yard for about four more. From there it went to my garden for a while and finally back to my deck. All of this is easily within the stated one acre operation zone. I have sat on my deck within ten feet of this device and had to swat mosquitoes. After all this time I finally emptied the catch box on to a white paper plate. There were a number of small gnats and such but as best as I could see there were only four mosquitoes. Based on my experience and by best efforts to make this work, with bad results, I can not recommend this product.
