I love how this Myler doesn't fully collapse, is gentle on the mouth, and has large D-rings that don't pinch! This is a WONDERFUL bit, and the bit I'd want if I were a horse. A bit that your horse likes is something you can't put a price on. But don't take it from me. Here's a story for you: Little did I know that many of my mare's "undesirable behaviors" stemmed from tack that was ill-fitting, she didn't like, or she wasn't ready for. Her old bit was a just a standard loose-ring, single-joint snaffle. I thought it didn't get any more simple and gentle than that. And yet (without me even touching the reins) she pulled, open-mouthed, and fussed with the bit. We never achieved anything close to a steady and quiet horse-rider connection. I thought she was just getting accustomed to everything, but it happened again and again. She was fine in just a halter (which was great practice anyway.) And though I made excuses for her, I never thought to try a different bit (which now seems like a huge 'duh!') When a friend and mentor came back into my life with this (correctly sized) Myler, my mare was sold on it within seconds! She chewed on it, then settled right down to being quiet in mouth and mind. And it's been that way ever since! By catering to her comfort in tack, she's given me a whole new horse (at her 19 years of age) that is willing to learn and happy to be present and participating in what we're doing. She's finally having fun! Thanks Myler!
I own a strong, built down hill Holsteiner that got very heavy in the mouth and would drop his head with his waterford D ring. My trainer recommended Myler's and the first time I tried my horse in this bit he went around like a hunter! I couldn't believe I wasn't riding a freight train without breaks anymore. He loves this bit because of the roller in the middle and the copper in lay. He plays with the bit a lot and I love seeing the slobber at the end of the ride because it shows how much he is finally accepting the bit. I also know he is happy that I no longer have to pull back so hard to get him to stop, just a slight tug and release and he comes back down.
This bit is amazing. My mare has an extremely soft mouth and will constantly bite and chomp with even a nice fat soft french link. She is so comfortable in this bit. She drops her head, extends forward, and travels with a consistant rythym with this bit. I love it so much that I also bought the eggbutt version so I can show her dressage with it (eggbutt version is legal). This bit if perfect for horses with soft mouths, just beginning their training, or are being retrained.
My trainer suggested I get this bit for all 3 of my horses because it is so effective in communication between rider and horse as well as being very kind to the horse's mouth. I have 3 very different types of horses and it is working well for everyone! Thank you to SmartPak for offering this bit at the lowest price I could find anywhere!
I bought this for my 3yr. old and I love how he's responded to it so much better than a regular snaffle.
I needed a bit to start my mustang under saddle and love my Myler for my other horse so I thought I'd give their level 1 a try. She sizes right at 4.75" (maybe even closer to 5"), but I was worried when I saw how much was coming out of her mouth. After talking with a Myler professional they assured me that's how they're supposed to fit. We've done a handful of rides so far and she seems to like it! I love the large D, which acts a little like a full cheek, perfect for introducing steering. I'm also happy that it will never fold in half and crush her bars - I don't need to worry about her being in pain while she's just learning the basics. I also can see that the independent movement of each side will really help fine-tune her movements as she progresses in her training.
This was 100% worth the $ i was using a normal egg butt snacks on my OTTB mare and she was throwing her head a lot and not wanting to relax or go into contact we also moved barns just a week ago and she was very up and tense every time I rode I just trie dyer in her new bit today and it was best ride I have had on her yet she was so relaxed and in the contact and over all more happy during our ride what a great product I will only ever buy this brand of bit
My horse has always resisted contact, even with the trainer. She has a small, halter horse head, and has always gone in a single-jointed egg butt snaffle. I thought this bit was worth a try, as SmartPak has free return shipping. Now, my horse is SEEKING contact, and not sucking back every time I pick up the outside rein. Worth every cent.
I have a 8yo TB that I started last year on a soft rubber mullen bit, as she just did not tolerate much bit pressure. After a few unsuccessful tries with a few 3-pc snaffels I tried her on this bit and had great success, as the 'release' and lack of 'pinch' is what she needed to trust the bit. For kicks I tried in on my 1st level Trakehner who had become a little heavy in her KK Ultra and she is becoming much lighter!!
I switched from a full cheek level 1 Myler to this bit, the full cheek had a little too much action for my horse, because of the hooks. Just the slightest rein pressure would confuse him, and he would jig at the halt. In this bit, there are no hooks so there is a much more quiet connection between us, and he is much more relaxed and doesn't think too much about whats in his mouth, and rather can concentrate on what we're working on. I really like how Myler designed their bits so they pivot, it really allows communication to move the shoulder up. Excellent line of bits!
