I have to be honest for me the 1st two episodes were kind of slow. However, I am a huge fan of Judy Davis and just watching her interact with Detective Jay was great. Then while watching Episode 3, I found myself sitting up and paying attention! By Episide 4 the sparks were flying! I watched Episode 5, went to bed and got up a 1:00 am because I HAD to watch the finish!! Wonderful acting, great story, and knock out twists! I orded "Mystery Road Series 2" a few hours after finishing this one. The interplay between the whites and the Aborigines (I'm sorry, I can't remember the name they use) was fascinating, touching and powerful! Also, look down below for Review written by Queen B...it's wonderful! Good on you Queen B. !!
I love crime dramas and have watched more than I can count - but this one is truly unlike any I've seen before. It's not simply the location, although I always enjoy seeing new places; it's the series' intertwined plotlines, including the focus on the lives and culture of Australia's indigenous peoples and their struggles with the impact of European colonization, which continues to resonate today. The writers' seamless weaving of a solid mystery; Detective Jay Swan's personal struggles; and the tale of the Aboriginal ways, their fight to retain their identity and practices, and their suffering due to the continent's colonization makes this a compelling show to watch..and the acting is honest and unaffected. The particular mystery may itself be fictional, but I think that there is much authenticity to the backstory and the actors' portrayals - there is a very real, "take no prisoners" feel to the series. Very well done!

Have one more episode to watch but I find it very good. Love the characters and the setting lends itself to the moodiness of the mystery. Also like what I am learning about Aborigines and how the two cultures must collide every day.
Loved it!! Are the movies available? I will be ordering the second series. The only thing I didn't like was it was not long enough... Great acting, great scenery, damn good story.

Takes a lot of GUTS for Judy Davis to enter the cast of this show. Look at whom she is pitted against in the series. Aaron Petersen is no slouch.

This was a gift. We hadn't seen it yet.
