National Hardware V2579 Magnetic Stud Finders

This stud finder is small, light, and inexpensive. So it's handy to store in a tiny kitchen tool drawer and will be right there when you need it. It did the trick in locating wood in a bathroom wall. I needed to know the location and the distance between wooden studs to select racks and grab bars that would mount into those studs. The item works by magnetically adhering to nails within the studs, so you do have to move it around a bit on the wall by trial and error to find those nails and then mark up or down along the vertical line where the studs would run. Compared to big, old style, more expensive stud finders, it more clearly pinpoints the center of the stud (provided the carpenters pounded the nail in the center of the stud). This makes it easier to "aim" correctly and drive more than one nail or screw into that narrow piece of wood, such as for heavy items or grab bars that will bear weight.

It is very compact so it does not take up much room in your tool kit and easy to travel with if need be! It is easy to use and handy to have around the house for when you need to hang something. I really like the small pencil holes to make my pencil mark through. It allows for pin point mounting of hardware.

My boyfriend hates putting stuff into the wall, but with the stud finder there is no fear of things getting ripped off the wall… Needless to say, I've been able to convince him to put some stuff up on the wall! Stud finder works well, except my walls have stucco on them so it is more difficult to find the stud.
