National Hardware - V835 1/2" x 18" Cane Bolt

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great latch. I built some doors for my shed. It is 2 swinging doors. I used this to anchor one for the times you only need to have 1 open. Strong steel and Great black paint that withstands use without scratching.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This National Hardware 18”x ½” Adjustable Throw Cane Bolt is just what I needed to replace the much shorter one that was on my gate. Its length makes it easy to reach with plenty of length to secure the gate. The design of the locking bracket keeps it from coming loose and dragging on the ground while trying to open or close the gate. The cane bolt can be used in either the horizontal or vertical position to add a little extra security to any type of door you have.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you are looking for a decent bolt to keep gates shut, look no further. This thing is strong and sturdy! Previously, I had issues with other products like this so I'm super happy now with no worries of anything getting in or out!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We got this product in pretty fast so we were able to put it to use quickly. We have a 20' gate opening which is covered with a 16' gate and a 4' gate. We use this cane bolt on the 4' since it doesn't get opened very much. I will say that when the 16' gate closes it can hit with a good amount of force and this cane bolt so far has held up and is not showing any signs of bending.

Its sturdy, works well on vertical installation and will probably last a long time. Seems a good fit for my small gate. Now some cons... it has no capture tabs in the shaft of the bolt, so the bolt can be easily removed after installation by sliding it straight up. There are slots for the capture tabs on the mounting bracket, but no tabs. The screws are %2312 (or 14 maybe) with no cutting tip (sheet metal) so If you are not screwing into a 4x4 you should probably pre-drill. Its not stainless steel.

I found it a bit difficult to install, maybe my fingers couldn't get angled properly but it seemed to take ages! Once installed however, it's quite right and operating like a dream. The cane bolt does a super job!
