I liked this one because it is made by a company that has been around for over a century and because the glossy black finish would dress up my gate. It was easy to install with the 4 screws that are included. A great feature is that it can be adjusted to close at your desired speed. After installation, just adjust the spring tension by tightening the nut on top then install the stopper to prevent rotation. This spring should be installed on the side of the gate with the hinges so that it pushes the gate closed. It is not intended to be on the inside of the gate where it extends and pulls it closed. When installed properly it works perfectly. I'm happy to have my gate automatically closing again. This steel gate spring is heavy-duty, works great, and is sure to be long-lasting.

It holds the gate firmly closed, but dies not slam it shut. We will be getting more of these when we build the second barn in the summer.

The gate spring worked flawlessly when opening/closing the gate especially when I'm concerned it closes securely off the street level. The installation was very easy to install and make the adjustments to allow for a safe closing and opening. It is important to make tension adjustments when the gate is in the open position to allow for safe and accurate closing. This will prevent any hard or fast slamming of the gate with young children. I installed the gate spring on the outside versus the inside of the gate. It was secured tightly and the mounting hardware held well through constant use. I had no concerns the mounting hardware would become loose and come off the base. The National Hardware Gate Spring is a very good product that will deliver you competent performance in ensuring your gate will open and close securely and safely. I give this product a 4-STAR Rating.
