My son's 2009 Volkswagen Jetta s needed a full recharge of R134 refrigerant. The refrigerant had leaked from the low pressure side refill line fill line; a common thing. Refill was straightforward. Please consider the following before doing a recharge:: use a refill valve that is for self sealing R134 cans as can be purchased from Walmart for $20. The one you want will have a pressure gauge, a piercing valve made especially for self sealing refrigerant cans, and a fitted Schrader valve adapter that fits on the low pressure side Schrader valve. The low pressure ac line is the larger one, the high pressure is the small line. The Volkswagen Jetta called for 525 grams which translates to 28.3 grams per ounce=525 divided by 28.3=18.55oz or 1.5 cans as they are 12oz cans. The piercing valve is opened when turned fully clockwise and closed when fully opened; remember these are self sealing cans and piercing valves made for old R12 don't work. The gauge will show when you're system is fully charged. PS: run you car ac on high when you charge your system.
