I have a pit bull that has been on apoquil and now cytopoint for allergies. They help but she still rolls all over the floor scratching. I have also used the very expensive by prescription only food but this food so far has given us the absolute best results.
This is a wonderful food. My david has been eating this for years. Never ignored his food until i started using 360 beef as a topper. It freeze dried it has real meat ,organs and bone .I If you can only afford kibble Nature's recipe is my recommendation.
We started using Nature's Recipe Grain Free over a year ago when we couldn't get our Mastiff (Maris) to eat other dog foods... This is the only one she loved... Maris has past and we have a new pup (Max) He loves this as much as Maris did... They give it 8 paws up!
My small dogs have very sensitive stomachs. Their vet said to change to a better quality and grain free dog food. I've found that the Salmon %26 sweet potato food has improved my dog's appetite and quality of life. I love to see them happy and healthy, especially without the sour stomachs we were dealing with before. Happy dogs equals Happy homes equals Happy humans. They are eating much better grain free and they love the flavors.
I have 2 dogs, one with severe food allergies. I wasn't sure what I was doing at changing her diet at first, so I did a LOT of research. I choose Nature's Recipe Salmon, sweet potato and pumpkin. She is now SO healthy. I've been using this dog food fir about 2 and a half years now. I highly recommend this for dogs with food allergies or stomach problems
I used to buy the BIG bag, as he is a large dog; however, each time I bought it, a big percentage would go to waste: The last 3 4” of the bag was mostly crumbs from maybe too much weight of other dog food bags stacked on top of it in warehouse, %26 far too often the food looked off-colour/ smelled stale (even if still within expiration date %26 thoroughly resealed after each use). Aside from 1 small bag that was delivered outside its expiration date, the small bags always look fresh %26 don’t smell stale, %26 he looks forward to eating them. Seems the large bags are the leftovers from each production run, since I’ve seen a big variance within these large bags in size %26 appearance altho the bag has the same production plant number. Buying the same %23%23 ea month in small bags costs me about $11 more than 1 large bag, but at least he eats it %26 I’m not having to wonder if it’s bad %26 discarding 20 % of it bc it’s nothing but dust %26 crumbs.
My Pomeranians do really well on this food. They absolutely love it and go right to it when I pour it in the bowl but my poodle/Shih Tzu however he doesn't do too good on this food and I don't know why this food is so expensive. In order for it to be this price point it should additional fruits and in it that my Poms need like carrots blueberries and cranberries, etc and all kinds of other vegetables and fruit in it because it doesn't have it , I have to buy another brand and mix it
If your dogs are still young enough, this is a great product. I used it for my pugs. The grain-free option was amazing, but I had to switch to Caesars because the size in terms of eating for my pugs was getting stuck in their throat cause the size of the kibble was too big for small breeds. It didn’t quite work, especially as they age. I recommend it if they’re younger because my dogs ate this from the ages of three to just now 8 years old so for about five years. I’m just so bummed that I had to switch because I did like the formula of this, but my dogs have been doing good on the other dog food that is much smaller in sizing and softness compared to this brand but would still recommend it to other dog owners that have younger dogs that still have the capacity to be able to chew and swallow my dogs are just getting up there in age and it’s no longer an option.
Ok food at a fair price. However, compared to most other brands, beware this dry dog food is VERY high (sky-high) in salt. I have always had to phone the manufacturer to obtain salt levels because one of my two dogs has congestive heart failure and can't have much sodium in her diet. Also, in the last year or so Nature's Recipe began quietly adding chicken ingredients to this "flavor". So, now the value of this supposed "Salmon %26 Pumpkin" really ought to read: "Salmon, Pumpkin, with Chicken Ingredients", because if a consumer is not reading the ingredient list EVERY time it's purchased from this company, they might be surprised to know the manufacturer has "slipped-in" some cheaper chicken ingredients. Therefore, I can only give this product a three star/average rating.
Both of my dogs threw up all of this food after eating it. It’s bigger than the kibble they’re used to so the next time I fed it to them I soaked it in hot water to try and break it up so it’s easier for them to eat and digest. It never softened. I tried cutting it with a knife and food scissors. I went to mush it between my fingers and it was still the same consistency. I thought “what the heck this can’t be right how can this not be broken down?” So I wrapped a piece in Saran Wrap and it into itself. It was literally as hard as a rock. Walmart customer service was great and gave me a refund. Don’t waste your time, money or energy on this or you’ll have a bunch of vomit to clean up.
