This gun is so much fun. It shoots a very long distance and shoots hard, so it's an outside toy. I'm told that it's weighted and balanced correctly, that's why it shoots so far. It has a safety switch and I'm impressed by that. Teaches kids to be responsible. It is well made and should last for quite a while. All in all, a neat gun to own. I'd recommend.
received this item from the Walmart Spark Review Program for no compensation - just an honest review. The Nerf line-up just keeps getting cooler. The Nerf Rival Apollo XV-700 is equally impressive when compared to the motorized Zeus version. NO batteries are required – as this is a Spring-action blaster comes with 7 high-impact rounds . The Easy-load magazine holds 7 rounds – which is slightly smaller than the Zeus’ 12 round magazine – which is supposedly not interchangeable between guns (Zeus’ 12 round clip will work in Apollo, but Apollo’s 7 round magazine won’t work in Zeus). The Rival line of Nerf guns are available as red or blue. This Apollo blaster has a trigger lock and a tactical rail for sights or other accessories such as a face shield – however – the functionality of the tactical rail on the Apollo Blaster is somewhat minimized by the fact that the cocking lever sits atop the Apollo Blaster – getting in the way of any sight you might try to utilize. You must pull this lever all the way back then push it forward prior to firing. Why it doesn’t return to the front itself is a mystery to me?!? To my knowledge – this is Nerf’s first use of the new ammunition that looks like really small gumball sized golf balls. Rated ages is 14+ - and let me tell you – this is pretty close to the sting level of getting hit with a paint ball – just no long lasting welt afterwards. The Apollo 7 round magazine is cool in that it allows for speed loading your ammo by just holding the magazine and pushing it down over your ammo 1 at a time. Really quick – really easy. The ammo really flies – with claims of over 100 feet per second and we believe it. It easily flew 100’ as well (and in our basement – it bounced off the opposite wall and had enough power & velocity to bounce and roll all the way back to us). It is no wonder that the Rival face masks were made – I’d hate to get hit in the face with one of these Rival foam balls. In my opinion – the facemasks should come with the gun – they are that vital if you are going to shoot at anyone else. There is NO clearing jam port - unlike the Rival Zeus – Nerf really should have had one here – and this is a major fail as jams are inevitable when using any Nerf gun. The pull on the cocking lever is pretty heavy – again – not for the young’uns. Some others have reported jamming issues with the Apollo – we didn’t have any such issues. Overall – the Nerf Rival Apollo XV-700 is an impressive gun, just wish the magazine clips were interchangeable between the 2 guns and the cocking lever was put on the side of the gun. Just keep the Nerf Rival line out of nerf battles for kids under 14.
Pulling back on the priming bar (lever) takes a bit of force – maybe too much for young players The handle is really big – thick enough to allow the clip to fit inside, but might be too large for smaller hands Great idea to have a safety near the trigger I haven’t fully tested the accuracy with a bulls-eye target, but velocity is superb and impressive. I used it to scare off skunks in the neighborhood The lever used to load the next ball into the barrel blocks the “site” I didn’t like the loud sound when fired Absolutely no recoil! I could shoot one handed, just not with accuracy because of the site being obscured by the lever (priming bar) Didn’t have any issues with orientation or alignment in loading the magazine into the blaster Reloading the magazine is a breeze. I especially like that you can just walk to the expelled ball and use the magazine to pick it up (placing it into the magazine itself) With only 7 rounds, it would be nice to have extra magazines This is the first “ammo” I’ve seen that you can use around the house without damaging things I do have a little concern about pets or children trying to eat the foam balls, but shouldn’t be an issue if players know to be children/pets aren’t present during play. I definitely prefer the foam density and composition of the balls to any darts
[Employee of walmartcanada] at first it was to prime but i got used to and it is powerful i love it !!!!!!
This is Our 20th Nerf Gun. It Shoots Very Fast & Very Far [estimated 75 MPH] & Super Accurate. I Have Had Some Paintball Wars In My Day & The Nerf Rival Apollo XV-700 Blaster Hurt Just Like A Paintball [wearing normal clothing] When Hit Within a Range Of 10 -15 Feet. I Can See Why NERF Now Sells A Face Mask With This Nerf Line Of Guns. The Nerf Rival Apollo XV-700 Blaster Is The Smaller Of The 2 In This Series. I Could Only Imagine The Strength Of The Larger [estimated] 100 MPH Rival Blaster. Time To Break Out The Full Body Gear On That One! " )
This nerf gun is intense! It is recommended for 14+ for good reason. Although the balls are the classic foam, they pack quite a punch. I imagine this could hurt a small child very easily, and even older children, if used improperly. It is very fun, though, and very easy to load and play. It's really loud when being fired, too. On a side note, I received a red one, instead of the blue, like it states.
The Nerf Apollo XV-700 is a bold new design from the blaster makers. The new golf ball style ammo and clip system seemed unusual at first, a clear departure from their traditional darts. Unpacking it seems easier than most nerf guns, without the paper twine and such, and my initial impression of the toy itself was skeptical. For a product that claims to exhibit precision above other blasters, the idea of a priming mechanism on the top seems counter-intuitive. How would one aim it properly to take advantage of the improved aero-dynamics of the ammo. Obviously, it shoots in the direction you point it, and the drop off seems far better over other blasters, but the lack of sights is annoying for that matter. However, the impact and implied accuracy is admirable and makes it clear why Nerf raised its age of use up from 8 years and over to the 14 and over. The product advertisements I’ve seen imply that the product is aimed at a more adult audience, but it seems likely that the products will end up in the hands of younger teens and adolescents who enjoy other Nerf products. I feel inclusion of the face mask would be beneficial to that concern for parents and other adults.
I got this for my teenage daughter who is into Nerf guns and she was really impressed with the accuracy and shooting speed. The magazine clip makes it really easy to load the foam balls. (These should NOT be aimed at people at close range). She shot it outside and the distance that the balls shot out were very impressive! I did order the blue Nerf Rival, but got the Red one instead. I didn't know to choose a color choice or they ran out of blue ones. either way, my daughter wants more accessories to play with her friends.
First let me start off by saying that I like the concept of this blaster. I got this one and another in the hopes that my son and myself could have gun battles. The only problem is this blaster had a defective part. The magazine that holds the balls was missing a spring that is supposed to push the ball holder down. So the balls just fall out of the magazine making it unusable. I have been in contact with Hasbro, they sent me a return label so I could send the blaster back, not sure what happen after that. I am still waiting to see the final outcome, but I only had two weeks to get this review finished. I do like the fact that this blaster does not take batteries, however it is yet to see how long the spring will stand up long term.
I got this Nerf blaster for my 9 year old son. He and his brothers love Nerf guns. The box was quite “cool” according to my son; he actually kept the box just for show. This gun may be one of the smaller Nerf guns out there, but boy does it shoot out bullets with force! My other son has a huge Nerf gun that shoots out bullets a little slower and softer. This one shoots out fast and hard! Bullets do go quite a distance too. We did have issues with it jamming. My son would pull back on the gun, aim, and shoot only to have the trigger jam. Somehow one of the bullets had gotten stuck. My husband and my son had to actually unscrew the gun and remove the bullet. After putting it back together, the gun worked for 2 bullets before getting jammed again. Once again, my husband had to unscrew gun to get it unjammed. After putting it back together, it still is not working. We aren’t sure what is causing the gun to not work. As of right now it is sitting in the box unused as it does not work. My son is really upset and we aren’t sure how to fix it. We may have just gotten a defunct gun.
