My closet was was like spaghetti junction (I-285) and I couldn't find the right cable to unplug and became frustrated. Went online and looked at several switches and seen several but kept coming back to Netgear. Netgear has always been reliable, easy to use and robust with its product. I purchased the 8 port Gb Smart Switch and now I can login switch make changes and so much better now.
I have three GS108Tv2's and a GS110TP. I absolutely love them. I can't say that I've done anything with the VPN features, but the PoE is SO handy. I've read a few reviews where people had some troubles with these devices but they really sounded like they were trying to get Enterprise class functionality out of a consumer/SOHO device. Which reminds me of the people who thought the home PC (made by a certain manufacturer that I will decline to mention for whom I did technical support) should be capable of professional video editing. Back in the 90s. With free software that came on the machine. I am a big fan of Netgear products and the lifetime warranty is just a giant demonstration of their belief in the quality of their products.
I have used Netgear switches and router devices for many years. They are the first product I look at when looking for a switch or router for small home small business and some industrial applications. I have never had one fail in over 10 years. I like the rugged cases and the relatively cool operating temperatures.
After I connected the Ethernet cable from the router and other cables from other devices, the network switch was ready for use! If you need to access the switch's management controls, you'll need to get the switch's IP address, which you can get the software that retrieves it from NetGear website.
This switch is just what i was looking for. this year I have been learning as much as I can about computers. I have a number of devices that Im using in my home. So I bought a switch to expand my network. Its a managed switch giving me more expansion to my recent education in technology. But simple enough to just plug in and use if want to keep it simple. Great product. Highly recommend!

This is a managed gigabit switch with VLAN support and a web interface. I don't like the fact that this has to be registered, and the setup was unnecessarily complicated. But hey, it supports VLANs and is programmable port by port, so that I can have two separate VLANS running independently that share one internet connection at home. Network devices on the two networks only see the other devices on their respective virtual networks, but all have internet access. Cool. Now my network devices are hidden from my parents' network devices, and that is what I wanted.
Using this to filter multicast storm control. It does the job well, and the sturdy hardware demonstrates the look of a high quality product. The one thing that I do not like and wish would go away, is the need to register the product in order to access most of the features. For most people this is not going to be a big issue, just an annoyance. However, you better hang onto the registration ID or else some years down the road there is a potential to end up with a brick should the switch get a factory reset after Netgear decides they no longer need to support an old obsolete product.
I picked up one of these switches recently and it has been great. If you need some interesting features but do not need multigig support, this is a good choice. I am only giving it four stars because there does not seem to be a way to change the administrative user name, or use 2FA, which are both security issues imo.
This is a great switch, easy to configure works well. However, I went to mount it on the wall with the screw slots provided in the back. Slid the switch on and it stoped working. Contacted support, turns out that there is a thin plastic cover between the circuit board and where the mounting screw hole is. The screw likely had a sharp edge and cut though the thin plastic cover and shorted out the switch. Netgear refuses to help me out so I need to buy a replacement switch. The Support engineer was actually kinda rude and said I used too much force. Sad to say, I was going to upgrade my wireless system to a Netgear solution, but now, I'm not buying any more Netgear products. Their Lifetime warrantee has lots of caveats. If you have have this product, take extra caution mounting it, they dont have much protection around the mounting holes. If possible use a plastic screw.
