So far so good. Before, I was using a to-link 802.11ac usb WiFi that should have provided 480-566mbps speed. Best I could do is 57mbps. Maybe some of it was due it being under a desk but since it showed full bars on signal strength, I would have figured I should have eked out at least 200mbps. With this new unit, I am seeing over 700mbps on WiFi 5 and 1200mbps on WiFi 6. Huge difference even for basic web page loads. I just hope the quality stays excellent. Installation was a bit of a chore as you can t just plug and play. Must first install net gear program which needs to see the internet(so old WiFi card must stay installed). Then pull the usb with this program on it and install the hardware. Not too big deal but for someone who doesn't cope well with these extra steps, may create minor heartburn.
I had to switch my internet from wired to AT%26T Air. Unfortunately, my computer is not Wi-Fi compatible. The last thing I wanted to do was spend more time on the phone with AT%26T because not only would it have been frustrating, but they would have tried to sell me more equipment, or worse yet, pay a monthly "rental" fee to use that equipment. I also did not want to buy a new computer. So, after a bit of research, I found this Netgear Nighthawk Wireless Network Adaptor. It was important to me to choose an adaptor that could provide enough speed to handle all of the things I need to do on my computer every day. I also wanted to make the right choice the first time around. I'm really tired of giving in and buying cheaper versions of products, only to be disappointed in how well they work. This seemed like something that would be worth spending a little bit more on, if it performed as well as it claimed. This adaptor came with a thumb drive containing the installation program, which included everything I needed to get started. The adaptor itself has a stand that it plugs into. The stand has a cord that is around two feet long that plugs into your computer's USB port. This gives you a little bit of leeway on where you can put the adaptor. So far it's been working well. It picks up the wi-fi signal with ease. The only hitch has been that I've had to reconnect to the wi-fi every time I turn the computer on because it refuses to connect automatically. But that's really not a big deal. I would buy this little gizmo again for sure.
My legacy laptop 2.4 internal WiFi interface was fine 5-years ago. After trying (returning) several other brands and models, I decided to try NetGear because I was so impressed with the NightHawk WiFi router/firewall I purchased about a year ago. I didn't want need ‘ultra fast' with system system, so I went with the AXE3000. The first thing that I enjoyed was that the setup removed all of my legacy adapters from the view of my always invasive Win11 OS. After completing setup, I rebooted and just sat back and the NetGear AXE3000 ‘do its thing'. My DL speeds through another companies WAP's I installed was SO much faster, even faster than the ‘other' WiFi 5GHz plug-in I was replacing. I've had ZERO issues with compatibility, and the sensitivity of the AXE3000 allows me to move farther on to the back porch and still work at reliable and greatly improved speeds. Couldn't be happier.
Nighthawk AXE3000 WiFi 6E USB 3.0 Adapter (A8000) receives a strong signal and works great
I bought it as a cheaper alternative than replacing the internal radio in my LG laptop. It does the job. The case/stand is a little clumsy to work with but other alternatives were more expensive.
Very pleased with this purchase. The download of the software to mate the product with my PCs was smooth and incident free. The PCs identified the product and began using it immediately. The transportability of the adapter has been perfect with my moving the adapter from one PC to another. It has performed flawlessly on video calls, web connections and music streaming. Highly recommend the product.
Great gear (Netgear cable modem, Netgear WiFi 7 router, and Netgear WiFi 7 USB adapter) working together to make ultra-fast connections!
It's far better than the built in one on this older computer I purchased it for. Signal strength improved and so did speed as it was a pre WiFi 6 device. Unfortunately I can't seem to get it to work on certain higher bandwidth channels however this does not seem to be the fault of this adapter. I am not sure this would be worth it unless you have USB3. This device can transmitter faster than USB2 can handle. If you don't have USB3 get something cheaper.
I bought the A8000 to replace my A7000. I deleted the driver for my A7000 and downloaded the driver for the A8000. I ran several speed tests and found the A8000 to be slower than my A7000. I re-boxed the A8000 and it is decorating my shelf while I have reverted to the use of my A7000. Not sure why the upgraded unit is slower, but the speed test numbers speak for themselves. (My A7000 has a much larger antenna than the A8000, which may have something to do with the slower speed of the latter?)
This is an excellent device, until it isn't. Mine stopped working for no clear reason after only a couple of years of use. Repeatedly drops connection with my router. I replaced this unit with a spare, which still works for now, but I have no confidence that this product will last.
