I order this bike for my son, he loved it. But we did have a hard time putting the front wheel on. Because the bars was bent the wheel goes on. But after a few hours we finally made it fit.
We got this for our son for his 7th birthday. He is small for his size so he could not use a 20" bike, but was too big for a 16". Because his hands are small he has trouble using caliper brakes. While this bike has one on the front wheel it still has the rear motion brake, which is great. We didn't need the training wheels so we just took them off and bought a cheap kickstand, which works great. We have owned this for almost two years and he loves it. We have had no mechanical problems, even though he rides it a lot. It is a great inexpensive bike.
OK, if you're a bike snob looking for a high-end bike, go spend $200+ at the bike shop. If you're a realistic parent who realizes that your kid is growing like a weed and this bike only needs to last for a couple of years at most, buy it. This is a great little bike for the price. Well designed, trouble-free, cool graphics, and a great intermediate size. A bit smaller than the 20" bikes, which is perfect when they outgrow that cute little 12" starter.
I purchased this bike for my grandson who is a little larger then most 6 year olds. This bike is well constructed and sturdy and very safe, also easy to assemble. I wasn't expecting much for what I paid but it's truly a nice bike, I'm very impressed. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a bike for the larger than average size child trying to learn to ride a bike. The 16" bikes are too small and the 20" is too tall, this is just right!
We bought this using site-to-store since they didn't have any available at the store. My 5 year old son had to test drive the girls version of this bike. The 18" is a perfect fit for this age group, as the 16" will be grown out of soon and the 20" is too tall. When I went to pick it up, it was still in the box and I had to come back again to pick up the assembled one. (Assembly of any bike bought at Walmart is free). My son has taken the bike out a few times and it seems good so far.
Looking for 18 inch bike with training wheels? This is NOT it. After reading reviews it was uncertain if bike had training wheels. Some reviews said yes others said no. Asked a question to Wal-mart online, they did answer(NO), however it was after my order was already placed. Spoke w/ well informed local Walmart (bike) Associate. They said 18 inch bikes use to come with training wheels, but they DO NOT anymore. Well on good note bike was delivered way before estimated time and my son loves it!! Shopping for good set of training wheels now :) the selection Walmart sells do not fit the newer bikes. Any suggestions?
We purchased this bike for our 5 year old who is taller than average. For the price, what a deal! The durable frame and heavy duty tires will definitely see my son through many years! He finds it easy to pedal but he is still getting use to the size,so he falls over alot but with the good construction I'm not worried about the bike!
This bike is a cheap bike, that's why I bought it. Kids grow too fast for anything of high quality. My boy loves it he can ride much faster given the higer gear ratio. It was the lowest priced bike I could find on the web that had the quick release seat post and the dual brakes. I would say the worst part about it is the training wheels, they are very poorly built and dont last long when they ride sideways. Lukily he didn't need them for more than a few days an they already were losing thier rubber. Again, the boy can't tell the diference, that's all that counts.
This bike seemed sturdy (lots more metal, lots less plastic than many other models) but we bought it for our tall 5 year old as his first "big kid bike." Problem: this bike not only doesn't come with training wheels, it isn't possible to attach them. A joint company/ WalMart decision was made (info from employee) that kids big enough to ride an 18" bike were too big to need training wheels. As such, the bolt on the rear axle has been shorten which makes it impossible to attach them (any brand/ style). Even if you can force a set into place, it messes up the chain operation, causing the chain to slip repeatedly. Bike should be fine if your child is big enough to not need them in the first place...
While the bike itself is a good bike and the value is really quite good. NO ONE carries replacement tubes or tires for this size bike. You can't find the solid tires or the slime filled tubes or the tires themselves. Not even Walmart supprts this size bike tire. If you want a good bike that you plan on throwing away after the tires go flat purchase this bike. Otherwise purcase a 16" or a 20" bike as those sizes have lots of options for replacements.
