Have not had it installed as of yet, was recommended by family and friends who had experience with this system, was told it was a good system
I bought this to replace my old nightowl system and wholly crap!! This system and the new app are sweet! Cameras are clear and I can now read license plates with ease! I'm still stund at the clarity of these cameras and the distance they reach! Thanks again nightowl !!
Night Owl DVR are super great DVR reasonable price long lasting, for a 1080P DVR the recording are clear pictures on the Play Back ,the Police got a Mugshot of the one that broke in my Truck and was able to Identify that Low Live individual , by day end I got my tools back ,,,I do recommend this DVR and all other Night Owl Poduct this is my 3rd DVR from Night Owl , with this 16 Channel 1080p Bluetooth DVR I will be able to had 4 more Wi-Fi Cameras to the system . Not only this is a Great DVR but cannot forget Customer Service that always got my back on issue that I could not resolved ,,,also I got what I paid for great quality DVR and Cameras
CAMERAS ARE JUST GREAT-CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET NOT SO GREAT. I HAVE SEVERAL SYSTEMS AND NIGHT OWL CANNOT BE BEAT. JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER! THE SPOT LIGHT IS A GREAT IDEA TOO! I TRIED CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET AND JUST GAVE UP. I'LL WORK WITHOUT IT AND BE OKAY, IF I DO HAVE ANY PROBLEMS DOWN THE ROAD, I'LL GET MY GRANDSON TO CONNECT IT !
I have had my Lorex system for about two and a half years now, and I had to replace four cameras due to the mounts and arms breaking. The DVR is great, but cameras are expensive. I do install camera systems for my customers, and now I can no longer recommend Lorex systems. The Night Owl system is a great system, the only thing I do not like is most of the programing and set up is done through the app.
I purchased this camera system since my current system's DVR stopped recording after 5 years of service. I am very pleased with this new system and all of the included features as well as the great video quality. The tech service department was very helpful with assisting me regarding all of my questions and concerns.
I have been using Night Owl security systems for 15 years. My first unit was a 8 camera wired dvr, my second was a 16 a camera wired unit. This is my third unit, a 16 camera wired unit with the option to add four additional wifi cameras. I hope that it performs as well as the first two, my only worry is that it runs hot as it does not have an internal fan as my first two systems did. This may shorten the lifespan of the unit.
Turned out I didn't need it! This is my 4th Night Owl system. Each generation gets easier to set-up. I upgraded to add doorbells thinking I would need a wi-fi recorder. Thought I would like the spotlight cameras, but the spotlight comes on a lot without any motion or objects in view, tried every setting available but still on off randomly. Not a lot of adjustability (like sensitivity) as before. It is geared to use the phone app, some settings are not available on the recorder display. I have a 50" TV on my home office wall displaying 8 cameras and wanted to add doorbells and get push notifications when someone rings the doorbell, I bought 2 doorbell cameras but when I add them to the recorder in the app the notification option for pressing the door bell goes away. Also get constant false notifications when added to the recorder, turned off vehicle and motion, left on human/ face detection but still got constant false notifications. Uninstalled them from the recorder and just added them to the app only with just notify if the doorbell is pushed and don't get any false notifications. Haven't tested the other settings installed this way but I have wired cameras covering the area already, just wanted notifications when someone rings my doorbells. If I knew this I could have just installed the doorbells and kept my old system. For most people or first time buyers, this system would be easier to self install and set-up than previous recorders, phone app is adequate and younger would probably prefer the phone app, but for me I miss the more detailed adjustments.
Positives of this product are that the color and picture clarity is good. Easy to install, connects to both monitor and phone app. Negatives of this product is that video relay to screen is a little delayed and the wide angle distortion starts to far from the camera for our needs.
Worked for a couple of years then the hard drive stopped recording, so I bought another surveillance hard drive and swapped it out but no matter what the system doesn't recognize the hard drive at all. So now we got cameras that just show a live image but don't record a thing since the original drive is dead and it won't recognize the new one at all. IT supports has been no help except for the only recommendation is "buy a new system".
