I have used multiple Night owl systems. I'm very pleased with the quality of the picture with the ease of installation and the reliability of Night owll security camera systems. This is my fourth system. The only issue I have is due to power surges at my home. I have to replace the system and this is not due to faulty Night owl equipment that is due to my electricity provider. I highly recommend Night owl they are reliable. They make a wonderful product and they're in the US. The only thing that I would like to have would be where it identifies a car or a person or a movement if it had an identifying box so that I didn't have to search the picture for what is being alerted to.
This FTD-8 System was much more user friendly than my first Night Owl unit which quit working after 8 years of continuous use. This Night Owl was very easy to set up. I do wish that the installation instructions had mentioned that I needed to install the "Night Owl Protect CMS" program on my laptop in order to view the cameras on my PC. The CMS program is different than the Smartphone App, which is simply "Night Owl Protect". The only oddity that I'm experiencing is, every few minutes, a random camera will quickly flash a colorful scrambled screen, or a camera will go blank for just a second. It's not really troublesome, and I can live with that. I'm hoping that it might be caused by something like my electric sump-pump cycling on and off every few minutes because we're having a very wet and rainy spring season. I'm happy that I bought this FTD-8 system. A huge plus was that the original Night Owl camera wires that I installed 8 years ago were compatable with this new system and its 4K cameras, and I did not need to run new wires.
I upgraded from the old 1080p system to the 4K and it is a significant improvement. Not only is resolution 4 times better but the night vision is much brighter, the lens angle is wider, and the Night Owl Protect app is significantly better than the old app. The added refinements make this system so much better
I bought a refurbished hard wired system from night owl and couldn't be happier. From the infrared indicators on the cameras them selves to the facial recognition capabilities of the system itself, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Not just adding a feeling of 6 new watch standers for my home it's also stands out from the neighboring systems it provides visual indicators conveying that this is not the property to be trespassed upon.
These were an upgrade to an older Night Owl System so installation was a breeze as basically I just changed the cameras and the DVR. The video is nice and the ability to do human vs vehicle vs face detection is very helpful at cutting down false alerts that you used to get from the "pixel change" motion alerts of the older systems. My biggest gripe with this product is the app. It's slow to load, and some of the features for iOS don't work. -For example the do not disturb function is hit or miss as I set a time only to fin out that it does not work. -There is no snooze function for motion, so you have to turn off notifications if you are going to be in an area outside for a while, be prepared to be constantly bombarded with notifications. -The sound warnings, while effective are all or nothing. They constantly go off when motion is around and repeat the same phrase over and over. Would be nice to have a chirp option that let's someone know there are cameras but does not constantly shout out Smile you are are being recorded. -It would also be nice if there was greater integration into the smart home universe. For example, IFTTT integration would be amazing such that you could trigger lights to come on inside the home if a human is detected, etc. None of that is possible currently.
Installation was super easy since I was upgrading from an older night owl system and used the same wires. DVR interface is really nice. I don't really care for the mobile app. It takes too many steps to get to the live view. Record sensitivity isn't as accurate as my old system did which is disappointing but overall it is satisfactory.
So far I love the new cameras. I upgraded from an older model. These are awesome so far. The newer app is more reliable as well. I wish there was a 6 camera view in the app as I bought a 6 camera system. I see 6 views and 2 dead cameras. Would love bigger thumbnails of 6 instead of 8.
I have this equipment for 3 weeks now and there are some features to improve: definitely the App; besides not so user friendly it doesn't respond fast enough when want to have access for a quick view or to check a sensor alert. Also I have to close it totally very often to make it respond and load the cameras. The other not so good features are the cameras speakers and the siren. Those aren't good quality and hard to understand the prerecorded message or when having a conversation by the two way audio cameras. On the other hand, the good things it has are the good quality video of the cameras and the no need to have a tv or monitor connected to set up the system.
We have owned the night our security system for several years, we are on our third system. The last system that finally wore out this week we purchased in 2017 and utilized The night owl HD app. I utilize an old tablet as a monitor in my work area so that I can see when I have deliveries. The tablet is mounted and displayed my four primary cameras throughout the day uninterrupted. It is too far from the system itself to use a cable to have the normal monitoring. This app is absolutely useless for a constant monitoring. It shuts down right at the most inapt time and then takes forever going through all the steps to get it back up and running again. Basically this app is made my system useless for my every day use and is making me reconsider night owls system.
I defiantly would have passed on this set up all together. How can a company make a set of security cameras, with no audio recording available?? This is my second set of cameras with Night Owl, my first being a WiFi 1080p bundle and they worked so great! I am definitely not happy with these.
