I have had the system for about 3 weeks now. This is my 3rd Night Owl system I have purchased. The picture quality is great for the price point. I can’t speak to the longevity yet. Hopefully this will last as long as the last system. The app could use a little work as sometimes I have to back out and reboot the app to get it to respond. Overall I am very pleased
In the beginning of trying to find the best system was difficult. Trying to find which one would best suit me but also be affordable. I'm now on my 3rd night owl system at my house. I've had cameras on my house now for 10 years. So I've had to upgrade a few times but that's the only reason I've gone through 3 systems. I'm currently in the process of buying my first wireless system for my business. If I could give 10 stars I would every time they bring out something new is top of the line. All the add on parts make night owl unbeatable. I would recommend night owl to everyone if it's where you just want one camera to only see a live view to having 18 cameras inside and outside of your home or business.
My older model NightOwl crashed (way past the warranty) and this was the closest model suggested as a replacement/upgrade. Luckily, the wires and BNC connectors from my older system and cameras were compatible, and I didn't have to rerun the wires through the attic for the entire system. I just replaced the DVR and cameras, and it works like a charm. And the Bluetooth setup was very simple. As mentioned, the image quality of these cameras is amazing. Day and night images are crisp and clear. The motion sensitivity to trigger recordings is way beyond the 100ft as advertised, even at night. I almost couldn't give it the full 5 stars because of minor things that have NO effect on how well the system works, but it's still enough to mention here. The pre-recorded message scares the bajeezus out of everyone, which is awesome. But, it's not a clear message and it's rather garbled. I understand it's really small speakers in the camera, but my cell phone sounds better with smaller speakers. Also, while the spotlight works great, I've found no way to set it so it doesn't activate during daylight hours. You would think since the cameras switch to night mode at sunset, the spotlight could tell the difference between night and day. Like I said, neither of those items are deal breakers. I am very happy with my upgrade, especially with the vast improvement in image quality. With the price point on this system, you cannot go wrong. Especially with no monthly fee, plus I can access my cameras and recordings from anywhere.
I am glad I purchased the Night Owl security set. After researching a dozen other systems, and meticulously reading all the features and pros/cons (and taking advantage of the holiday discount), I new this was the right choice. I had a friend help with the wired install (with 6 cameras with light and voice) took a good part of a whole day), and after loading the app was in business! Next is the doorbell. Also, I had a question on the shipment and Night Owl answered my email within 2 hours! Now that's service.
Night Owl DVR are super great DVR reasonable price long lasting, for a 1080P DVR the recording are clear pictures on the Play Back ,the Police got a Mugshot of the one that broke in my Truck and was able to Identify that Low Live individual , by day end I got my tools back ,,,I do recommend this DVR and all other Night Owl Poduct this is my 3rd DVR from Night Owl , with this 16 Channel 1080p Bluetooth DVR I will be able to had 4 more Wi-Fi Cameras to the system . Not only this is a Great DVR but cannot forget Customer Service that always got my back on issue that I could not resolved ,,,also I got what I paid for great quality DVR and Cameras
This Is My 2nd Night Owl System. I Live In The Sticker Patch Where Temperatures Reach Over 110 Degrees In The Shade, My First System Has Worked Flawlessly For Over 6 Years 24/7/365. I Bought The 2nd 8 Channel System To Replace My Aging 4 Channel System.
I bought this to replace my old nightowl system and wholly crap!! This system and the new app are sweet! Cameras are clear and I can now read license plates with ease! I'm still stund at the clarity of these cameras and the distance they reach! Thanks again nightowl !!
I bought this about 2 weeks ago to replace a NightOwl system that was several years old and the cameras stopped working. 6 cameras are nice and the added feature of adding 4 wireless cameras is a nice plus. The new cameras have one drawback, namely they are hard to position; they do not have the mobility of the previous cameras. In order to get an upright video I needed to create several wooden bases in order for camera to point in the correct direction. The images are great at 1080. The verbal command (optional) is poor quality--a very scratchy "Smile, you're being recorded"; difficult to understand. The remote viewing app for my phone and ipad works well once you get used to it. I had some trouble getting it to work. It occasionally lost connection and I needed to log out then log back in, but overall it works well. I like the new, improved software for identifying saved clips and playing them back. This works better on phone/ipad than on the DVD from my monitor. Overall a very good system and much improved over my previous NightOwl system. I was able to use my existing BNC cable which made installation much easier.
I recently upgraded my older device because I wanted to improve 3 areas. 1. Motion Detection including using spotlights 2. Notifications 3. Ability to view camera feed when not on local wifi The motion detector triggered when a moth flew by, or when it rained. At night it was almost a constant stream of recording. I could not use notifications or the spotlight. I also leveraged recording areas to minimize the motion detection. This only patched the problem partially. Therefore I decided to upgrade from a DVR-C20-41-JF to a WM-BTD281-4LSA. The new system was easy to initialize and good news it does allow for Human Detection and at this time seems to work sufficiently. Therefore I have enabled the spotlight and some notifications. Also the upgrades to the App have allowed better viewing of my recordings while remote. But I lost the ability to lengthen the recording time for each occurrence as well as some other small features and functions. I would say the App is still a bit clunky and needs improvements. p.s - I am still learning the features and functionality of the new device, hopefully they continue to improve the product As of today this is a solid product in a space with a lot of other solid products. But not a leader.
this system is our second Night owl security set up. I'm am happy it works but, we had plenty of issues and it's got a steep learning curve. Not so user friendly. The options are limited and incomplete compared to the older system. It does however have decent cameras.
