Replacing an Old Night Owl system, almost went with another Brand because the old system was so bad in App remote connectivity and pic quality. Decide to give a chance on new 4k system with existing cable. i made a great decision to stay with Night Owl, New system have great connections and great pics. Thank You Night Owl
We upgraded our system from an older Night Owl DVR and cameras. The picture clarity and the ease of the software to make it mobile viewable was so much better than our old system. I was told that the old cameras and cables were not compatible but they actually were, which made it much easier to install because I didn't have to pull wires except for the cameras I added.
Video quality is great, very easy to set up, simple but useful interface. The motion detection is a little sensitive, even on 'low' setting, it will pick up folks across the street in their garage. Depending where you live, that could be a good thing. I would definitely buy this exact setup again
This unit is a replacement for an older model. The software is much nicer to work with. The older unit handled 8 cameras and the new one handles 12. The one and only issue is with the remote software. You must have a cellphone to set it up. The world still has people who do not need nor want a cellphone. I do have a tablet but its not tied to a cell service. When you try to create an account it wants to send you a code as part of the first time log in. It sends it to a cellphone number not to the email address it asked you to provide. It will not allow you to create the account. I talk with a rep but he indicated my only option is to use someone's cellphone. The best option would be to have the code sent to a standard email which I can receive on any device.
We hooked this DVR up to another set of cameras already hard wired in our home. (That system was through Q-See who apparently went out of business during the pandemic. The DVR we had for the Q-See system had started making noises and we believe the fan was starting to go). This works perfectly EXCEPT our TV is only HD and we didn't realize it needed to be a 4K in order to put the program onto the TV itself. It works fantastically though via our mobile devices and that actually has been working out well. The DVR is quiet. Eventually we will install the four cameras that came with this DVR.
Just bought this a week ago, 6/19/21, and the product was really what I expected, pros: 1. easy set up and configuration, and installation 2. pictures in live view or review were crystal clear, even with zoom in 3. broader view angle, 85 degree 4. No connection hiccup viewing via mobile devices so long as you have good wifi bandwidth Minor cons: 1. No audio recorded or in Live view 2. there are 1 or 2 sec delays between actual happenings and recordings 3. False positive alerts with one of my cameras and no sensitive settings to control it except turning on/off 4. the DVR was so hot, esp. at the HD location as its vent designed were not good; I had to place a small external fan and it helped In all, recommended product
I bought this system to replace my older 720p camera system. I only have a few of my cameras changed out as temps are single digits to -30. I haven’t got the app on my phone to accept the DVR yet but I’m working on it. It keeps showing the dvr is already listed but has a red x on it
I have this equipment for 3 weeks now and there are some features to improve: definitely the App; besides not so user friendly it doesn't respond fast enough when want to have access for a quick view or to check a sensor alert. Also I have to close it totally very often to make it respond and load the cameras. The other not so good features are the cameras speakers and the siren. Those aren't good quality and hard to understand the prerecorded message or when having a conversation by the two way audio cameras. On the other hand, the good things it has are the good quality video of the cameras and the no need to have a tv or monitor connected to set up the system.
The system is very easy to install and use . I did wish it hD the two way speaker in the hard wired cameras. But I did have a problem trying to buy the system. 5 hours being thrown from one department to another and all of them saying that it wasn't there department to fix the problem. But after 5 hours of texting and calling and being very frustrated and angry they finally fix the problem and I was finally able to but the system I wanted
Were not compatible with my current night owl system. Apparently there are several night owl systems that arent compatible with each other. Walmart listed these cameras directly below the system i had purchased with no indication that they would not work together.
