An indoor smoker. I tested some babyback ribs on it twice. The first time I used the wet method. The second time I used the dry method. They came out perfect both times. Read the manual and prepare for easier clean up. If not, it gets pretty messy inside. The temperature control is epic. It doesn't take a genius to operate this kettle. You don't need anything else, just bring the meat. Next up, prime rib!
I purchased this smoker as a gift. I had purchased 2 more, one for my son-in-law and one for my husband. My husband was skeptical at first, but after using it, he is very pleased. Highly recommend.
It works great no smoke in apartment put fan on though
I'm giving this 5 stars - it does what I want it to - smokes meat. Although nothing really compares to charcoal grilling, the Nordic Ware Kettle Smoker gives meat real BBQ flavor even though I am using it on my stove top. YAY! Cons: You can only fit a certain amount of meat in the kettle at a time. Examples are maybe 4 burgers, or 6-8 sausage links, or 1 slab of ribs cut in half, a whole chicken up to about 3 lbs., etc. Cleanup can be challenging just like a grill you would use outdoors. But that doesn't take away from the function at all. DO use tin foil to line the bottom of the smoker and the drip pan. Cleaning will be much easier. Overall, VERY HAPPY. If you have no space for a grill or are otherwise limited to cooking indoors only, you will love this smoker! HINT: I did buy a rack to sit inside so that I could expand my smoking space. See uploaded photo. (Update International 10.5" Chrome-Plated Steamer Rack) Works perfect. Thank you Nordic Ware. Now we can have BBQ whenever we want. LOVE my smoker.
I live in an apartment now. but really miss the good old days of barbecuing in my back yard. I can get good markings in several ways but not the smokey flavor. I use the smoker on an induction plate and cook for an hour or two. The induction never gets above 170 degrees but it really adds the smokey flavor. I finish my ribs off in a halogen oven and get great results. You can get higher heat by using the stove but you can set off the smoke alarm in the apartment if you are not careful. It does exactly what I want with no issues.
very nice and fits perfectly on my stove top. Made corned beef, smoked brisket, smoked salmon and some other dishes. Worth the money and very easy to clean. An excellent addition to my kitchen wares. Definitely recommend this item.
Brought one 2 years ago from fingerhut for $100.00 bucks even then I said it was worth the price I should've brought two. I see this one for less I just had to get it,now I can cook faster with two going. Hickory and oak are my favorite flavors, just brought a set of 8 pint size variety pack wood chips from amazon which also was a good deal.
This was a gift and very well received!!
I only used this kettle once so far and followed the instructions of the video. But, if you are using the tiny wood chips provided, 1 tablespoon is not enough to create a good smoke flavor. Also, I use an electric stove top and I made the mistake to set it on High. It burned the chips very quickly, then there was only the odor of burned wood. For my second try, I have bought a bag of larger wood chips, I plan to soak them in water for 30 minutes and then turn the cook top only on medium-low. Also, 1-1/2 hour for a salmon steak is not enough. I was told that to get a real smoke flavor, any meat or fish should cook for 4 hours at a temperature not higher than 150 F. I will definetely keep on trying until I get it right!
Easy to use smoker, inexpensive but I have two concerns: the lid is not perfectly round ans does not fit exactly, and the red paint is burning off, I don't know if this going to continue and if it affects anything but looks.
