I started using it for perimenopause instead of low dose antidepressant. It's worked wonders for me. I no longer have hot flashes and my periods are regular again. My skin is much more normal and I don't have mood swings.

I cant believe this is priced so low. Now are renowed for quality products. I do not use it chronically so when I do I actually feel its subtle effect, especially at 600mg 3 times a day (when needed ;-) ) Now we need to beg swanson to carry the 120 count bottle too ;-) Excellent!

5-HTP helps to increase the serotonin in the nervous system naturally. I take it with other products, like Noni, Sunrider's Prime Again, St Johns herb to elevate the mood. It helps a lot. I take it in the AM, after breakfast, since it can upset the stomach otherwise. I found out there are 5-HTP sensors in the stomach, so the stomach is sensitve to it. I take 200 mg a day. I do feel the effects, and it does give my mood a boost.

This is a good product, however the strength (200 mg) is too much for most people. The first day was great, I could tell a difference in the way I felt, right away. Much better then anti depressants! But, serotonin, naturally is produced by our brain and this going straight to your stomach , is WAY to much serotonin for your stomach and will make you VERY nauseous! I guess because I already had some in my system from the 1st pill, on day two, I immediately had to RUN to the bathroom and for the next hour..... so do not take this strength...start out with 25 mg and work your way up to what your body/brain needs. This is not "time released" so 25 mg several times a day until you see what the right dosage for your body will be.
