I've never tried Branched Chain Amino Acid pills before. Since I'm currently in much worse physical shape than usual, I thought I'd give these a try (in an effort to ease my return to fitness).
The pills are quite large (see picture), and the serving size is 3 pills. However, they do seem to have a smoother coating that most pills, which makes them easier to swallow than you might expect. The taste is fairly neutral – not great, but certainly not unpalatable. They also didn't upset my stomach at all, and I have a fairly sensitive stomach.
I've tried these pills twice so far: once after a routine of jump rope and strength training, and once after a short run and strength training. I would estimate that I experienced 10-25% less soreness with these pills than without them. It is obviously hard to say for sure, since I have no way of knowing exactly how sore I would have been from the exercise had a I not taken them. However, they do seem to be effective to some extent.
The bottle says you can take this product before or after exercise. However, it doesn't specify how long before exercise to take the pills – 20 minutes before? 2 hours before? This would be helpful information. Regardless, I opted for after exercise both times, in an effort to minimize soreness.
