as is their other 10% formulation (that is out of stock everywhere, except for Amazon price gougers at almost $20 a little spray can) - not greasy, doesn't irritate, actually smells nice (originally a skin-so-soft ingredient), and definitely keeps away skeeters and no-see-ums
Deet free but works well. I am allergic to deet so I've been using this type of spray from another brand the last few years but their prices have soared. I was glad to see OFF make a version that is more affordable. The cans spray well and I can keep the bites to a minimum.
Picaridin OFF! is odorless, greaseless, non-sticky, and incredibly effective against Texas mosquitos. It is such a better product than the old DEET products that youll never use DEET again. Unlike DEET, Picaridin will NOT degrade Goretex waders, fly line, or rain gear. Unlike DEET, Picaridin will NOT degrade plastic. I buy Picaridin OFF! by the case - we love it.
Picaridin is an excellent product that repels mosquitoes, biting flies, sand flies, ticks, and other pests efficiently. Unlike deet that will damage paint, plastics, and other things, it does the repelling without the damage to your equipment. Off's version contains 20% picaridin and is a good size to fit in a backpack or large pocket. I have used it for years and stand behind its efficacy.
I decided to try this one with picaridin, but also bought the one with deet (just in case). We've been camping twice now and I've only used this one. No issues AT ALL. I won't ever use the one with deet again. This has no odor, no greasy/sticky feeling, and is safe to use on clothing, canopies, our tent doors, ect. The one with deet always made me feel icky and I hated the smell... but I'm a mosquito magnet so I just had to deal with it before this. I also didn't have to apply it over and over through out the day for it to be effective. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this new product and hope it doesn't go anywhere.
I believe I'm on my third can of Off Sportsman insect repellent. I'm outdoors a lot and find that Picaridin is the ingredient that works in this product. I've been using for 2 summers now and it definitely keeps those little biting flies away. I don't go outside without spraying on arms and legs. It works fine using with spray on sunscreen too!
I bought this because I am pregnant and didn't want to use any product with DEET in it. I live in northern Albert where the bugs are pretty bad. I was nervous that I would get eaten alive but to my surprise the bugs don't touch me after putting this on!! Definitely will be stocking up on it!
Though I strongly prefer non-aerosols to protect the environment and keep a pump bottle of picaridin or similar bug-repellent spray in my car most of the year, I also don't want the risk of ticks and often go deep into big woods while geocaching, so the latter takes precedence sometimes. Plus I can't leave an aerosol can in the car in warm or very cold months. Hence buying and using them at home in warm months and using these and similar products for long outings throughout the year. Application: Convenient to use. Sprayer works great - one of the better ones. Mild scent. Quality: Seems to work well to repel bugs - have only found a few ticks on myself while using, all but one outside my clothing. Value and size: Not nearly enough in one container for multiple uses (of spraying jacket, pants, shoes thoroughly before an outing into the woods). Sometimes, if I'm spraying very thoroughly, one can will barely do a couple of applications. $ in general; $$$ considering that. Need a larger can of this spray (16oz. or so) so it'll last longer. Big waste (landfill :( ) to have to keep throwing out aerosol containers.
First time using this repellent. Have just used it indoors for a mosquito. Haven't had any new bites. Took a star off because, although the scent is pleasant, if I spray it on my arms on anywhere near my face, it makes me cough a bit. Will update as I use it outdoors.
I don't understand the reviews that state this formula is odorless. The smell is so overwhelming that I need to go outside to use it and I still wear a mask to avoid inhaling the fumes. It will dissipate after a while, but it's strong. Otherwise, it works well, although it only seems to last for an hour. To experiment, I've been alternating days using a product with 40% DEET which works better and repels more biting insects (gnats, fleas) and seems to last longer. If I purchase Off again, I will buy unscented Family Care and apply it more often because the scent when sprayed really bothers me.
