I have had the original Renegade RSS backpack for over 8 years and it served me well when I traveled around North America. I decided to purchase the upgraded version for my new job and I was pleasantly surprised with some of the new options and disappointed with some items that are no longer on the backpack. I like the restyled side compartments with the added deep water bottle pocket. The RSS computer storage area no longer has the hard plastic walls for protection, but it does have more padding now, like the Oakley Kitchen Sink does. I like the removal of the zipped compartment on the straps- never made much sense to me and anything I put in there would unzip and fall out. The Pro Renegade offers a large zip compartment in the front section where your pens and some notebooks go- a nice touch from the original version. The new pockets that are marked for cellphones, iPad and small electronics are nice. The added strap for keys is a very nice touch and long overdue. The new color choices are nice but I miss the riveted handled on the original backpack- it seems like it would last forever. Overall, I would purchase the new PRO over the original.
Not sure I can come up with ideas for improvement. The pack is perfect for travel. It has plenty of external pockets to keep things handy (ID, passport, tickets, sunglasses, etc.) and organized. Perhaps the only think I would wish for are less logos and a simpler (no/less logos) internal fabric. I really do not like to look like a walking billboard for any brand. Discretion is a must for a classy piece. By the way, the zippers are the smoothest I have handled in a long time.
Ogio makes the best quality backpacks with long-lasting fabrics, great colors and the zippers are thick and sturdy. They have lots of padding in the back as well as straps, making it comfortable even when carrying a heavy load. Only real issue is I wish it was slightly bigger, especially in the main compartment for carrying more textbooks.
I've had this bag for a minute now and I have to say, it's pretty great! Upgraded from the Orginal Gambit that I bought in 2014, initially to protect my old laptop as my old backpack had lost its bottom protection. The "RSS" System works as intended, despite its marketing word, it does what it needs. But I have to say the build quality is A1. My only gripe is the perturding sunglasses inside the main compartment. which is where i put my ipad pro, when its a full bag, the sunglass molding gets in the way. but other than that its great.
After borrowing my husband's Ogio pack for a carry on only flight, I was hooked! I had to have my own. I have now used my Renegade Pro backpack for two trips and the amount of clothing and “stuff” I can carry in it is amazing. The accessory pouch at the top is one of my favorite features. As my Ogio Renegade pack is laying under the seat in front of me on a plane, I can easily access that pouch for my glasses, a snack, and my phone. The construction of the pack is unmatched by any other brand and the quality is fantastic! I don't usually travel with my laptop, and the laptop section can hold a lot of items (clothing, socks, etc). This pack will bring me a lot of joy for many years to come!
I have an Ogio Metro bag that is over 15 years old that was in navy. When I saw the new Renegade Pro was offered in navy, and with my Metro being pretty well used, I decided to purchase the Renegade Pro. Overall, the bag is very solidly made, like my old Metro. I do like the crushproof pocket at the top. I do miss that the side pockets aren't as large as what was on my Metro, but it is nice having a dedicated pocket to hold a bottle. There are many more internal pockets than on the Metro and the luggage passthru is a nice plus. Overall, this seems like a worthy replacement for my old workhorse Metro.
I purchased both the Renegade Pro and the Gambit Pro backpacks because I could not decide which one would work for me without getting my hands on them. I was looking for a backpack for work purposes so I could sling it over a shoulder or full-on wear it if I need to. The first thing I learned, that was not obvious from the online descriptions, is that both of these bags have the same overall volume at 25 liters. And, for the most part, they are almost identical in design. The difference between the two is the side pockets. The Renegade Pro has three overall side zip pockets plus a water bottle pocket. The Gambit Pro has one larger zip pocket on one side and the water bottle pocket on the other. Ultimately I found that I wanted more, smaller pockets and ended up keeping the Renegade Pro and returning the other one. I have been a fan of OGIO bags for a long time and have always felt like they build a good product. So far, so good on my daily use of the Renegade Pro. Pros: * Build quality is great * Zippers are sturdy and smooth operating * I love the RSS design for the laptop pocket -- I don't have to worry about accidentally setting the bag down too hard on the ground. * I really like the structured zip pocket on top for fragile items like sunglasses Cons: * I wish the water bottle pocket were more of a stretch pocket so it could hold my fatter bottle, or a Nalgene. Both of the bags I tried had the more slim water bottle pockets.
I'm on my 4th Renegade backpack in 5 years. This time I bought the new Renegade Pro thinking it would be built with more durability and added features... Instead they just switched up pocket locations and not completely for the best. While it is still a great backpack, I can certainly recommend 5-10 features that should have remained. Your satisfaction will be based on your purpose for buying this model. I use mine for building automation technical work; so I need hand tools and computer gear to fit and be readily accessible. I recommend this bag, but I also recommend that you investigate the changes more closely, the original might be a better fit for you.
Too small for my needs, so I'm returning it. Re-center the top grab handle as it was in previous models and make it 30 Liters, and it would be perfect: -solid build quality -excellent organizational pockets -contrasting light great interior -the big water bottle holder on one side is a great improvement over previous models
Bought the bag because I love the organization of the first model. There are definite updates to the bag like the new bottle holder. But there are changes that made the bag not as useful as the previous version. The bag definitely feels less sturdy. The bag used to be able to stand up on its own but not anymore. Pouch that held the laptop was more sturdy and now it's all droopy. The new straps and collar is thicker and more comfortable. But I had to send the bag back.
