I have used it each weekend (3) since I assembled the smoker with great results. Assembly takes a bit of time but this smoker is heavy duty, well designed and packaged well. At 140 lbs, I was impressed with the quality. Nothing cheap or flimsy in this smoker. There are plenty of youtube videos on assembly and seasoning the smoker. I suggest that you watch a few to get familiar with the smoker. My first meat project was a brisket, though I would suggest a pork shoulder/butt which is easier and far cheaper if you mess something up. I have also done a pork butt with excellent results. Both the brisket and pulled pork was as good as any quality BBQ joint that I have eaten at in the US. Temperature can be maintained steadily for long periods. A full basket of charcoal has been giving me over 10 hours of 250 degree heat. I highly suggest getting a Bronco drum smoker. I would suggest that you get a duel probe thermometer that gives a more accurate temp of the grill face where the meat is laying. I also tried out the grill conversion and did a nice steak on it. In fact that was one feature that won me over was that is could also be a grill. So, go and "round up" a Bronco. You wont be sorry.
Father's day gift. A little difficult assembling as the holes didn't seem to line up properly at first but got it together and it works great. Have only grilled with it so far, but wow, better grilling experience than anything else I have used. Looking forward to trying it as a smoker and learning this different way to smoke.
I have used the Bronco 4 times now. Getting the temperature up is a learning curve. I think it may be the way I'm filling the charcoal and the kind I'm using. It went together easily and so far there are no leaks of moisture or smoke. The smoke only escape through the top stove vent. When you open it you see moisture all along the inside lid so adding a water tray is unnecessary. You barely have to spritz the meat even on a long smoke. After using offsets for years, I immediately noticed that the smokey flavor is milder in the bronco. I'll miss the deep smokey flavor, but everyone has told me so far that the meats I've done are perfect. We choose this because we will be reporting in a fifth wheel and we want a decent smoker traveling with us. This one has checked all our boxes. The Bronco is not a UDS. It is a beautiful work of engineering and art. That's my humble onion.
My son bought one of these drum smokers from Oklahoma Joe's 4 years ago and we used it all year long at least once a week. Never had a problem so when he moved out and took his smoker with him, I could think of only one replacement... another Oklahoma Joe's drum smoker!
Had been eyeing the OKJ bronco for a while and finally bought one. First big cook was a pork shoulder that took eight hours to cook. Left the vents open to see how much longer the bronco would go. Finally shut it down after thirteen hours! Could have gone longer but it was getting late. Pulled pork was the best I've made with the least amount of work! The OKJ bronco lives up to the hype!!!
I am 56 years young and have always wanted to smoke but never have, until now. Last month I was gifted my Bronco from my parents. Wow! I don't have a hobby but if I had to name something that gives me pleasure and joy, it's grilling and now smoking. I'm gonna enjoy my journey. The Bronco was easily assembled. The heads of the bolts used for assembly could have been case hardened (my opinion), but other than that, this is a well designed smoker for small jobs which I will be doing. Would recommend highly.
This was an early Father's day gift from my wife and kids and it did not disappoint! Easy to put together and puts out a great cook! Cheers to the Oklahoma Joe's team for this awesome product. I look forward to feeding the neighborhood for many years to come. Thank you!
Until I bought this smoker the only smoking I had done was in a small metal box on my stove top. I did a LOT of research. My three requirements were precise temperature control, usable for smoking OR grilling, and ease of cleaning. This smoker nails all three. The first thing that impressed me was the packaging. It was VERY well packed - even the washers and bolts were precisely counted and packaged. Then it was time to try it out. My first attempt was a whole chicken. I spatchcocked it, removed the breastbone, and then brined it. I smoked it at 250 degrees for 2 1/2 hours. It came out PERFECTLY!
Perfection, right out of the box. Well worth the investment.
Love the quality of this smoker. Very well built and easy to assemble. Absolutely love it and recommend this lil smoker
