I was doubtful, that I would be able to maintain temperature, but after doing several cooks, I have to say I am very Impressed, quite literally, once you set your temperature where you want to cook, it does actually maintain it, just as easy as my pellet smoker. The temperature varies very little, also, the time that you can cook with the Bronco Pro drum smoker Is amazing! you can cook all day long, at lower temps (250 degrees). I will be ordering a couple more of these, so I can use them for our local BBQ cook offs. It's not hard to clean up, its built very well, assembly was very easy. I would say it only took me about 1/2 Hour to put it together. I do have only one concern; the bolts that come with the bronco are not a good grade of bolt. I hope in the future Joe Smokers looks at that, the rest of the unit is really good quality, and very well built, adding good hardware would be nice.
this is the second smoker I have purchased from Oklahoma Joe. I am having a great time learning how a barrel smoke operates. the vents make it very easy to find and maintain your "sweet spot" temperature.
I bought the Bronco Pro two weeks ago, and I have not been disappointed. Assembly was really easy. It's very easy to do yourself, but having a second set of hands makes it easier and faster. Temperature control is easy, but I wouldn't trust the thermometer that it ships with. I have a high-end digital thermometer that I use with my other cookers. I hung the digital probe right next the the factory one, and it was off by about 75°. That's. A big difference! Once you have the temperature dialed in, it's really easy to maintain. A full charcoal basket burned for 15hrs at 250°-275° using lump charcoal. So far I've done ribs and chicken. Tomorrow I'm tackling a whole packer brisket. Hopefully it comes out great.
i bought one month ago had previos bronco jr only thing i wish this was as big as 55 gallon drum u could,nt buy a better one happy with this one overall
This is my 3rd OKJ barrel smoker. I use the regular Bronco 3-4 times a week, and it's my main smoker for just about everything. Decided to finally upgrade to the Bronco Pro and I'm glad that I did. Love the color but more importantly I love the extra cooking space. The Bronco has surpassed all of my expectations!
I'm truly blown away by Oklahoma Joe Bronco Pro. It holds temperature like I can't believe. Once you figure out your air flow, it truly is a " set it a forget" type of smoker. The only reason for 4 stars is during the initial burn off, the gasket stuck to the rim and kind of tore. I apply avocado to the rim now before every cook and haven't had any issues. If you're on the fence about getting this smoker, don't be. It's worth every penny.
Normally I wait a few months to review a product like this, but I also own a regular Bronco and a Judge grill, so I have experience with Oklahoma Joe's products. I absolutely love my regular Bronco, it's my go to cooker for day to day grilling and smoking. It's my favorite of 10 cookers owned because it offers outstanding bang for the buck. This Pro is basically just a larger version of my favorite, and based on the burn in temp results I expect this device to perform every bit as well as the smaller Bronco. I did consider a couple other 55 gallon size drum smokers, but ended up with the Pro mostly because it not only will smoke as well as those other ones, it has grilling capability that is far better. The sealed lid and the two dampers give superior temp control. Having a grate that is accessible without having to reach down into a hole to turn/flip foods is a benefit. The mobility from the large diameter wheels is far better than the tiny casters most competitors offer. All in all, the Pro meets or beats the drums on every point. So, why only 4 stars? Nothing about the regular Bronco disappointed me, this one has a couple things that are not up to that standard. The orange color is really fun and adds interest. Unfortunately the lid and the bottom drum section are one shade of orange and the center piece is a different shade. Doesn't affect the cook, just looks bush league. If you get the black version then this complaint goes away. The other annoyance is the ash pan support ring. On the regular Bronco it sits flat on the drum floor dead center. On the Pro it can't do that because the fasteners for the legs interfere. While it's not a real operational problem for the fire box/ash collector to be just slightly offset during a cook the problem is when the cooker is tilted on the wheels to move it. The fire box components end up sliding around rather than being held in place as happens on the regular Bronco. Both those are admittedly nits being picked. But starting with the regular Bronco spoiled me I guess, I expect the Pro to be it's equal, just larger. Bottom line is this is a cooker, and there is no reason it shouldn't cook just as well as the regular, I guess I'm just fussy.
Awesome smoker ! So versatile and truly a pleasure to work with .
Nice product well designed. Poor handling at the factory damaged before arriving at my house. Box wasn't damaged at all. The bottom half of the barrel was bent and not round so only a couple of the bolt holes line up I had to repair myself. There wasn't any damage to the paint. Other than that a great unit.
Honestly if it weren't for defects I would rate higher, but received not one, but two defective units. I assembled anyhow and had to out in a lot of work to get them operational. Second one I got was warped badly and the two halves didn't meet up well. I had to use a whole large tube of high temp sealant just to make it functional. But I will say the unit runs great, holds temps for a long time and performs as should. I am also a user of the Highland, so I'm a loyal customer and not just some beginner. I have been smoking for years and believe in putting my hard earned money with someone I can trust. Unfortunately didn't work out as well this time!
