Awesome smoker. I'm new to smoking/charcoal so there has been a learning curve for me. Took about 2 hours to assemble but really easy with bilt app. Very sturdy and well designed. Heavy gauge metal. Steaks and chicken have tasted amazing. The probes that came with the unit went out mid cook. Might need to upgrade those. The hopper can get jammed up due to the angle but a poker stick works well. I've only used it twice and it was really windy so I'm excited for a calm day. I haven't tried traditional grilling with higher heat. The app is pretty handy too once you get it paired. Overall very impressed. I wish I would've seen the deluxe version because the extra shelving seems handy. The cover is heavy duty, fits well, and easy to put on.
The app “BILT” made putting my Oklahoma Joe Tahoma grill/smoker together easy. It gives you step by step instructions along with a list of hard ware needed. It even gave special instructions for certain parts that may have been confusing without it. You can zoom in/out, tap on a part for the name, and rotate the picture it gives you any which way you want.
Did some research and looked at several grills. Not a fan of pellets so I opted for this lump/briquet feeder. Admittedly it is a great idea, but has drawbacks.. feed blocks up f you load it near full, fire grate clogs with ash, flue does not choke out the burn wasting fuel, connectivity is bad for wifi and bluetooth thru app. Overall as far a cook quality it is a smoking machine!
Nice interface but I do have a couple issues. The damper I feel serves no purpose the coal continues to burn regardless. The coals don't always fall to the bottom, get stuck on slope occasionally. Other than this issue, very nice.
Have used 4 times in past year. Worked great 2 out of 3 of those times. Currently day before thanksgiving 2025. Will not heat beyond 190-200 degrees.Fan stops a 210. No error message or explanation. Charcoal feed (chute) is a joke. Jams constantly regardless of fuel/briquettes used..Was gift from son.Ready to give it back to him.
Mediocre at best, clogs all the time randomly shuts off takes forever to get started and up to temp. I bought this after using the Masterbuilt gravity fed for several years I was very happy with the Masterbuilt and will be going back with my next grill purchase.
Don't waste your money! Mine was defective before a year old. Control panel went blank and it's been out of stock so they say. A grille and cover sitting for months with hardly any use out of it. OKJ has the worst customer service ever! They should have to replace the entire grille or refund my money.
I bought this 2 years ago after years of an offset smoker. I've had a few good cooks, as long as they didn't need to be low and slow... Temperature control is a nightmare. The digital gage stops at what temperature you set, not what it actually is once it reaches. If you set it for 225 it could (and will be) at 400 but say 225. Using the chimney topper to try to adjust temp without opening smoker is equally a joke. The fire grate and ash can rusted quickly with the fire grate breaking into pieces. I leave it covered when not in use. Getting a replacement grate has been a huge frustration as well. If or when I can get it replaced I will be selling it. Oh, and like many others, it will not connect to wifi to download the updates, but will connect to account for a cook....
First and most importantly, the app to the grill does not work. The app has 1.3 stars on Google Play, and Oklahoma Joe's does not seem in any hurry to fix it. So linking the grill to your phone is out of the question. The temp gauge on the grill is WAY OFF. I did 2 cooks and wondered why the food was done in half the time. I put a 2 thermometers in the grill and set the grill to 225 (the grills lowest setting). When the grill beeped, letting me know the grill was at temp, the thermometers were reading 255. SO the temp on the grill is off by about 30 degrees. And finally, I cannot even register my grill on the website. Fill all the fields in and clicked Submit, screen says it is saved and nothing ever shows in my Registered Items. Not good Joe!
This is hands down the worst charcoal grill I have ever owned. There's so many things wrong with it. It can't reach temperature set points, and hides it from you anytime it's within 75 degrees. The software is deceiving and pathetic. It clogs up and won't feed any charcoal properly, and you need to constantly babysit it. I haven't found any charcoal that feeds properly and doesn't ash up. Lastly, it has no fuel oxygen shutoff and it will burn ALL the fuel in the tank every time.
