I've smoked 3 times since getting it a month ago. So far, so good. I did take the advice of several other reviewers and make the modifications (high temp caulking, add'l temp gauge, door latches, & primary door gasket,) Without these, it would be a different smoker. After assembling, the primary door was a bit wonky with a gap of about 1/4" at its widest. That's a lot of heat & smoke loss. Door latches fix that asap. Definitely cover the baffles with aluminum foil to make clean up much easier. Drippings will bake on otherwise and it's like cleaning an oven after years of neglect. Also, purchase the baby drip bucket to avoid a mess all over the ground around the smoker. (OK Joes' should just include this and price it into the smoker) It definitely runs warmer up top versus at the rack/meat level so I may be adding temp gauges at meat level for more precision as another reviewer suggest. I've been able to control temp and the smoking process very well, including on a windy day. Seems to be built well and assembled in about 30 minutes. Another 30-45 for the modifications, but worth it if you want this smoker to perform really well. I'm very happy and look forward to all the smoking in my future! Definitely a great purchase and will be worth your investment!
Ordered this longhorn reverse smoker because I owned a highland offset years ago but decided to go with a pellet smoker. Biggest mistake ever! Gave the highland to my son which he loves,by the way! And gave the pellet smoker away free! Just didn't give the smoke flavor that I wanted in my briskets. Now I have the longhorn reverse made my first brisket on it and it was the best brisket that I have ever cooked! It was so good there was none left! I will be a continuing costumer of oklahoma joes smokers.
This is a monster. As described, almost 2 months in, seasoned well, no paint blistering. holds temp well. It does take more fuel but that's due to the size of the box and cooking chamber. maintains temp well. More clean up than standard flow barrels buts its worth it it. very happy with this purchase.
I have cooked on it so far 2 times the second time I have learned how to control the temp better, I knew it was going to be a learning curve after having the 2 old offsets I had. But I can see this one being as familiar as those were. For the price I have nothing negative to say about it.
Love it other than the paint is already coming off in spots. 1 have 4 other smokers but this is my 1st offset. Super happy with it other than the paint
The smoker is amazing and the ability to use it as a grill on the smaller side is awesome also. Only complaint is when they shipped it the nut and bolt package was broke open and stuff all over inside the box, and the O.J. Logo for front door was broke. But customer service took care of it right away and shipped another one for me
Bought this smoker in 2022 and it only lasted 3 years before it literally fell apart. It cooked great and evenly distributed heat but it is not made to be a stick burner. It cannot handle that type of heat. The firebox literally fell apart over those 3 years.
When I started to build the smoker, I noticed there were big gaps in the firebox and where the box connects to the Main Chamber. I paused, ordered some high heat gasket and sealant. The high heat supplies came in and construction resumed. When I seasoned, paint came off the firebox, and it's rusted. I bought some high heat paint to repaint the fire box. The first smoke went fine. The metal is fairly thin and doesn't hold too much heat. Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with the quality of this product. The smoker works, but I will probably not buy another when this one dies.
I got this grill.... And I thought the quality was good until I took it out of the box.. missing first two damper plates and got double the second two I thought this was supposed to be a reverse flow but what a joke! This is still an offset grill so I'm taking things into my own hands and fix it the way it should be. Also all of the spot welds will not hold up very poor! The lid is 1/8" out of square, doesn't shut properly, and trim for lid is not straight, poor weld's
Leaks out of so many places. Firebox paint bubbles. Pretty disappointed. Especially after how much I paid
