I've had this for a few weeks now learning about it and it's features and so far this smoker is fantastic!! Smoked two pork butts and some chicken so far along with a few ribeyes and the sear is on point! Luv this one ,also own the highland offset stick burner and that's awesome too ! Along with charcoal grill, gas grill and a ugly drum smoker I built myself!
So far so good. It's my first pellet smoker and I'm extremely happy with it. Stick burner purists swear you cant get good smoke flavor from a pellet well I can assure you that's false. I get, what I think,is the perfect amount of smoke flavor without it being overwhelming. Easy to understand manual easy to assemble and holds temp fairly well and extremely fast shipping. Gets 5 stars from me
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I cannot say enough about this product, it is absolutely hands down the best smoker/grill EVER!.You can smoke, grill, bake any and everything you can think of. The taste of the food is just out of this world. Very easy to assemble and user friendly. The stickers are a little tricky but manageable to remove. It has 900+ Sq inches of cooking space, ash cup for easy clean up, and it's made out of heavy gauge steel so if taken care of properly it will last a very long time.
I bought this smoker yesterday. The main reason I bought this was because I liked the was it looked on the website. After seeing the actual product there was no doubt in my mind this is what I wanted. It looks better than the pics on the net. I love the beefy look, the thick metal used to make it, the big wheels, and dual stacks. It is an awesome looking machine. Building it was rather easy, it took me about an hr to build. I recommend not tightening the legs until after the shelf is installed. Also make sure the wires are connected before installing the panel. No codes. It turned right on and I did the priming and seasoning with no problems. I removed the sticker very slowly and had no issues. I seared and smoked some pork chops, brats, and NY strips today. The steaks and brats were out of this world. I plan on smoking some baby back ribs tomorrow. I'm hoping on good results. My concerns are the price and the amount of pellets used. I wish it would've been a little bit cheaper and used up less pellets. I used up about 10 pounds for 1 hr and 15 mins of running time. This is my first smoker so those things won't affect my rating, for all I know it's normal. Altogether, I think this is a great product and would definitely recommend it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am not a grill aficionado. This is my first pellet grill. The last grill I owned 10 years ago was a gas grill and I never tried smoking. Assembly: Putting it together was easy enough. One of the smoke stacks took some persuading to get into place, but other than that it was smooth sailing. The instructions are well written and clear. My 10y/o and I put it together in around 45 minutes and actually had a pretty fun time doing it. We made removing that huge sticker from the inside a challenge. It took some time, but we did a pretty good job removing it thanks to some determination and little fingernails. Quality of materials: This is VERY nice grill in terms of the quality of the parts. The handle for the lid is luxurious, sure, but it is the attention to minor details, like the little rubber plugs used to plug the input ports for the meat thermometers, that really give me confidence that the people that designed this thing wanted every aspect of it to be high quality. I was also very impressed by the quick-draw hopper. It was easy to use and the pellet bucket is sturdy and air-tight. Use: I am a user-manual reader and the instructions are very clear. I followed the "first use" and "conditioning" steps before my first smoke and they were as simple as turning a dial, waiting, and verifying that things are working as expected. The control panel is very nice. It is back-lit, which I didn't think much about until the sun went down. Now I couldn't imagine it not being back-lit, especially this time of the year (winter). The main temperature readout is large enough for me to see from 12 feet, so I can read it without having to go outside. Setting the temperature is as easy as twisting a dial and waiting. It was easy filling the hopper and the auger worked as expected. I definitely need to experiment more and perfect the recipe, but my ribs ended up with a delicious hickory smoked flavor. Not bad for a first try! Concerns: My only concern about this grill is the consistency of the temperature. I was seeing ~20 degree swings on the control panel while smoking. A little googling, however, set my mind at ease as it appears this is normal behavior in pellet grills. I also used the meat thermometer as a second source of truth by just placing it inside the smoke chamber next to the meat and its readings didn't swing as wildly as the main temp read-out on the control panel. Conclusion: This is a great grill. Very sturdy, well designed, and easy to use.
So far good the only complaint I have is that the temp when set runs about 20 degree above what is set on the smoking end and on the searing the meat the temp even in low temps get and runs around 400 other then that I am happy with the product it is a very we'll built grill
I've had this grill for a week now and have Done multiple cooks with it. The 900 makes great food however the reason I give this three stars is for the poor temperature control. Never a consistent temperature. As much as 50+ deg. hotter than the setting on the dial. If you want better control as my buddy tells me-step up to a RecTec. What I like about this grill is that it's well built and looks great (reason for this purchase)
Waited months for the 900 to become available, finally was able to purchase locally and am for the most part very happy. Assembled this morning, easy process, good instructions, great initial quality. Stickers, stickers are everywhere on this grill. All but one came off with ease, however the one that didn't is on the inside of the cooking area. Ran the grill through the seasoning process. Didn't burn off. Not happy. Contemplating what to do next as I'm not going to use with that sticker still there. Will update later when sticker free, hopefully. As far as the ratings, 1 star deduction for the sticker. Such a silly way to mess up a great product.
This was grill I wanted. I have always liked Oklahoma Joe grills and smokers. Thought I'd step up a pellet unit. Material and ease of putting it together was fine. The problem is when it is set at 200 degrees the fluctuations are from 150 to 350. It makes smoking very difficult a nice steady 190 would be wonderful. Very hard to operate. Sorry I can't recommend this one.
I bought this grill on July 4th and have yet to use it. The smoker was throwing a breaker and after working with support they said it needed its own GFI as the grill uses a lot of power. I knew this wasn't right as I was using a heavy duty extension cord to a GFI 10 feet away but out of curiosity I had a electrician come and install a GFI dedicated breaker just for the grill. After the install I turned it on and to no surprise it threw another breaker this thing won't even pre heat. Called support back and they said it needed a new circuit board and sent me a new one. I installed the new board today and same thing it won't even pre heat before it trips the breaker. I'm done with this grill so use caution before you buy!
