Size actually does matter, guys

Shiroiyuki April 21, 2023

First time buying shells this year and discovered that, although the "net weight" and count stayed the same (somehow, which just baffles me because literally HOW)....these tacos are 25% smaller than their predecessors. We happened to have an old box still in our pantry from 2022 and the size difference is more than noticeable. The quality is also just not there anymore. Almost all of our shells were broken. I know a lot of that is probably the merchant themselves rather than Old El Paso...but still. It's not like they made them sturdier or thicker to compensate and ensure that there was no net weight difference despite the smaller size. Those still in tact basically shattered upon trying to eat them. Major disappointment. What a cheap way of cutting costs and still charging the same price. Hope your margins are looking better than my likelihood of buying another box.

So small they are unusable and lost their purpose

unusably_tiny July 5, 2025

First time I had bought hard shells in a few years. Was shocked that they are now so small that you can't actually fill them with anything. Old El Paso, if you are going to shrinkflate the product please keep in mind that there is a baseline size beyond which the product becomes useless and no longer meets its basic goal of being a delivery system for toppings. Your hard taco shells have crossed this line. I was basically unable to fit most of my fillings in them and had to eat the toppings separately with a fork or spoon. Honestly, it's stupid and I can't see myself ever buying your product again unless you adjust the sizes. If I have to break it up to top it and then eat it like a toastada or nachos then I may as well just buy those corn products or use soft taco shells. You could have shrinkflated the number of shells instead of their size, or just raised prices, but instead you have made your own product irrelevant. Please reconsider the product size so they can fulfill their purpose.

Very Disappointing!!

TastelessTaco June 16, 2025

Your “New Improved Taste” crunchy taco shells (18 count) are terrible. What little flavor they have is NOT good… and they are hard and thick. I've been buying these for years, but the past few years they have gotten worse (and smaller). I won't be buying these any more.

Stale tasting

Mamabear1621 August 19, 2025

Very disappointed in the new shells. They won't crisp up and just taste chewy or stale. I have never purchased anything but Old El Paso shells in the last 12 years but just had to buy a box of Taco Bell shells because the new ones are so bad. :(

Disappointingly Chewy/Stale

DawnGWI August 10, 2025

Guess we'll be moving on from what has always been our tried and true taco shells. The last 3 times we've had them they've been chewy/stale, even after heating them per package instructions.

It's broke because you “fixed” it

HCayH September 18, 2025

They say new and improved taste but they are horrible now! They broke taking them out of the package, burned in the oven, and fell apart when they have nest in them. Go back to the old recipe.

Laughable, what is this shrinkflation?

TacoMaster407 September 8, 2023

This is ridiculous, mom has been getting these shells for years. She came to visit and made tacos. When I saw them, I asked her if these were some new mini version. They were smaller than the street style soft for shells we had. To add insult to injury, they were barely open to put any filling in them.

Deceptively shrunken tacos

GuacaMolly April 18, 2023

I just had the more infuriating dinner experience of my life. The taco shells have shrunk so much thanks to the deceptive marketing practices of Old El Paso, that it's not even possible to fit a utensil inside to fill the taco. They're also thinner so they crumble easier. Completely useless, ridiculous. For the love of tacos, if you're too cheap to keep the package the same size, I'd rather have fewer tacos that can actually be enjoyed versus 18 unusable taco shells. If this is your business strategy, don't expect to keep your customers for much longer.

18 is joke!

Spotted July 30, 2022

I love these shells and the taste but it kills me that they can't figure out how to package taco shells to where you can actually get the count you buy. I noticed it more with the 18 count. You will see that I got six out of the 18. The others are completely cracked into or pieces and the others are packed halfway through the middle or as you can see broken on the edges. I wouldn't mind if these taco shells or the price they used to be but you've tripled the price now. I'm completely unhappy considering we're having people over for tacos and now I have to go to the store and buy at least two more packs given the number that actually come out of the package. Completely disappointed yet again.

Tiny taco shells

Sadmom April 1, 2022

I bought these today and was really looking forward to some tacos since I haven't had any in a while. I figured 18 shells would be enough for at least two meals for my son and me. Upon opening the box I was shocked at the tiny size of the shells. These are half the size of a taco at my local Mexican restaurants (both fast food and regular restaurants). They're half the size Old El Paso shells used to be. It was absolutely ridiculous. The flavor was good - as remembered - and they got nice and crunchy (took longer than suggested for the microwave), but they aren't worth the effort. They're extremely hard to fill because they're so small and about4 bites finishes one taco. My teenaged son took almost half of them for one meal. I'm so disappointed. Bring back full sized shells and/or warn consumers that the taco shells are tiny. Seriously, a 2 year old could easily eat 4 or 5 of these.
