It's not often I write to rave about a product, but Olympic solid color wood siding stain is tops. Used cape cod gray oil stain on my Douglas fir wood siding over 30 years ago when my home was first built. Just finished staining it again for the sixth time using the latex stain in cape cod gray again, my wife commented, it looks as good as it did 30 years ago. The wood is in excellent shape and remained protected as stated. In a world today where most products are comprimised to save a few bucks, Olympic stays the coarse. We live near the sea shore where sun and salt air have beaten the house for years. Thanks for keeping a great product going, I hope to get another 30 years out of my siding.
I have used this stain before and YES it is true about 10 years...I have used it on my house, my garage..my garage in upstate NY too...it covers amazingly well and does last...I am now going to do my home again and guess what...it has been 10 years and actually there are some areas that really dont need to be redone...I tell everyone to use the Olympic Stains and that they will not be disappointed
GREAT PRODUCT!! We built an indoor riding arena last year and applied two coats of solid color Maximum. The results were outstanding... perfect coverage and cures to a hard, durable finish, and we LOVE the color. We went with Maximum because it's guaranteed for 25 years with two coats and because we had such great results with Olympic toner stain on our barn. My painter had recommended Sherwin Williams, which was more expensive and had no coverage guarantee (why should I trust their paint to last if THEY don't???), but we insisted on Olympic, and we made a believer out of our painter. And OBTW, we've used Olympic Deck Cleaner for years, and it's the only thing that really works on mold and mildew out of all the products I've tried...great prep for any outside staining or painting job. We're sold on Olympic products and wouldn't try anything else at this point.
I am so impressed with this product. The application is easy, clean up is easy. Drying time is exceptionally fast but the look is incredible. I have use many different brands, some tinted and some not but this is the best by a long shot. Good job developing a product that exceeds my expectations.
We did a home improvement project two years ago and used this product and color. This year, we used the same product on different side of our home. The color matched perfectly! And the stain from two years ago is just as nice as the latest application.
(In order to achieve the best results I made sure coatings and contaminants were completely removed then cleaning the surface per instructions.) I used Olympic "Maximum" Stain * Sealant 10 Year protection (Solid Color) on decks & fences and the results were outstanding. Made an old weathered deck look new. Its been at least 5 years and both the fence and deck haven't faded or peeled.
Great product my deck is 25 year old treated have been using Olympic oil stain for at least 20 years is the best at repelling water, an also gives nice finish. I redcoat about every five years, between coating i clean it with Olympic Deck Wash, keeps it looking good without pressure washing.
I stained my very large deck last fall. This spring it looks horrible. Stain is peeling and flaking and it looks worse than it did before I stained it. I cleaned it with Olympic deck cleaner and it did fantastic. Rinsed very well, let dry then stained. After all the hard work it looks terrible.
I've used only Olympic semi transparent stain on my 27 year old deck and got relatively good results. 3 years ago I belt sanded and power washed the deck before resealing with 8-year Maximum. It was completely dry and appeared to take the stain like previous applications. After only one year, the stain left the surface and the deck turned bear and 30% gray. The wood is no longer water resistant and looks horrible. I don't know where to go from here but I did not want to start over this soon.
We applied the product to our cedar decks exactly as the directions stated on the can. We have stained several decks and are not amateurs. About six months after applying, all the decks began flaking and chipping. We would have expected this from a bargain product, but not from Olympic. We won't use this product again.
