Records from built-in condensor mic or included external mic. It also includes a cassette tape and the power adapter, so it is ready to begin recording audio. There is a low hum as the motor drives the cassette tape on the recording. Purchase 4 "C" batteries to tote it around with you to play music on the go.
My 103 year old mother has been using the Sony Desktop cassette player for years, but when it died I discovered they are no longer available, at least not new. And even used, were VERY expensive. So when I found the onn on the Walmart site I was very excited. The buttons were the same as the Sony (easy for my mother to remember) and I was hopeful that the sound quality would be good (It is). Considering the reasonable price I decided to make the purchase for her and neither of us was disappointed in any way! She has only been using it for a couple of weeks so I can't attest to it's longevity but so far we are thrilled. I actually bought two more so that she would have a backup and I would have one for myself. As a P.S. I later found out that my local Walmart carried it in the store. A win all around.
I like it. The only think is that you can hear the other side of the tape that comes with it before the side you are trying to play kicks in. But it is very nice the microphone is cool. It even has a port where you can hook your phone up to it and record right into the recorder. And the recording comes out nice and clear.
Bought this for my son who needed a simple to operate basic recorder for taping notes. It seems to work for him. The built in mic didn't seem to pick up very well but the included ext mic worked well for recording voice at the mic. Clarity / quality was sufficient for simple voice recording. Not sure how it would for for taping lectures or other not close to the mic.
This recorder has many problems, and is built poorly. There is a constant ringing coming from the power adapter and on audio when headphones are plugged in. The audio can sometimes speed up or slow down for no reason causing distortion. The worst part is the recordings. When recording even with direct audio from an aux cord, it can sound very finicky and is very inconsistent. It's not too terrible if you just want it to listen to cassettes though, and the portability is very nice! However for the price of $25 it is not worth it at all. If it is on sale for cheaper, I would recommend picking one up, but not at full price.
There is a loud continuous hum when I plug it in to my stereo which is why I bought it. By itself it sounds like what it is; a small speaker mounted in plastic. Seems to play cassets ok. Isn't there another country that can make this stuff besides China?
One of the worst cassette player/recorders I have ever seen, and it's a shame because it has a lot of great value-added engineering inside of it!: Such as: 1. an actual Mabuchi brand DC motor 2. removable connectors for the speaker and top shell components so you can service the player 3. recording "VU" meter LED The case, buttons, and design are definitely fine. Unfortunately the actual audio circuitry, recording head, and play head has been cost cut to infinity. So much so that the reproduced sound from this ,using any audio input source (mic, aux, built in mic), is what I would call non-usable and unacceptable in any case. I purchased this to record digital data on to with a vintage computer clone, but I have my doubts that it would even function for that purpose. I would go as far as to say you can't even use this as a dictation machine because the audio is recorded and reproduced so poorly. I would compare the audio quality to one of Thomas Edison's first gramophone recordings. Too much clipping, incredibly quiet audio with waaaaay too much background noise to be usable. I'm not sure what the purpose of this machine is a this point and would definitely recommend Walmart pull it from their stores. All it does is add to E-waste and disappoint people.
Pros are that it does at least record cassettes and has all the functionality except for when it plays blank tapes with recordings on them, it plays back the opposite side backwards while playing the desired side at the same time. Other than being unable to listen to personal recordings,it does play prerecorded cassettes just fine. Decent quality for the price and the bundle with an empty 60 mins cassette is nice.
I bought this to record my cassettes and it literally only worked for not even an hour after opening the eject button wouldn't open and when you try to rewind it makes a screeching sound it smells like burning rubber from the inside it's a huge waste of money don't buy this
1. Once I inserted a good cassette, the Cassette Recorder,Black, **** ate up the cassette. I tried to unjam the tape, but it was caught inside which I had to cut the tape in order to retrieve the unit that destroyed a good tape. 2. I am returning the product to a WalMart store for a full refund.
