A spontaneous buy, this oven is a fantastic way of bringing people together. Tested it by inviting family over and everyone wanted to be involved making & baking their own pizza. Don't bother with charcoal, good supply of wood burns fast and hot - the digital thermometer keeps you constantly up to speed with when to pop another log into the firebox, and only a matter of seconds for the flames to lift the heat back up. Worked equally well with chicken skewers & steak, so very versatile and useless addition to the garden. Only con, quite weighty and awkward to move. But overall a great bit of kit! Don't forget to get a peel to move the pizza in and out, a basic spatula is enough to rotate it so no need to buy that as well
Wow what a piece of kit. I am still in the early stages of using it but I have had a number of successes already. I have also cooked burgers and steaks and they have turned out great. I know this will be used for a number of years and the build quality gives me confidence it will last that long
Used for a couple months now and I must say it's an enjoyable piece of kit. Well built and durable construction. There is a bit of a steep learning curve if you're new to making pizzas but errors were definitely on the part of the cook and not the equipment. Have used it exclusively with gas so far (with add-on accessory) and produces little soot which I prefer to clean after each use but relatively easy to clean bec of the larger size. Enjoyable to use and will continue to improve with the learning process!
Beautiful build quality and easy to use. Takes a bit of getting used to the amazingly high temperatures (incinerated first pizza) but once you've got the hang of it a great way to enjoy home made pizza. I got the table as well which makes life easier. I can imagine this is going to be well used all year round.
Ok, I have used the Karu 16 just one time and I'm hooked. I hear people say that it takes a bit to get used to but I think I did pretty good for the first time. First pizza was a tad under done but the rest came out absolutely perfect. I had no trouble starting the fire and made sure to clean everything once the oven had cooled down. I had a propane oven before this one but always wanted a wood fired oven. I may still get the propane attachment for time when I don't have the time to stoke the fire continuously. The on drawback I can see is that it's heavy. It's not something your going to lug around too much.
This pizza oven has proved more than a pizza oven. We have cooked pizza, steaks and salmon in it and it is quicker than a traditional BBQ. We love it, and we are just beginning to learn how to use it. We have the small and large Griddler pans, which are essential!
Great build quality. It can withstand a lot of heat. It takes more than a few pizzas to figure out what works for you, but it is a fun process if you enjoy cooking. I plan on getting the gas adapter at some point for convenience. I have used it with lump charcoal and wood chunks and it is pretty easy to keep the temp where you want it.
Love the oven, well built, feels like a small tank. Only thing I would change is if it could come with some sort of chimney topper to disperse the heat allowing you to use it under shelter when using wood/charcoal without risk of heat damage/fire. It is possible to buy ones that sort of clamp around the top of the chimney but they don't look great. One designed for the Ooni chimney would look really good. Also it would be good if there was some sort of anchor point on the base that would allow a cable type security lock to be fitted. We have to leave our oven outside and I worry that someone could steal it as it is not securely fixed to anything
The baking stone cracked on first use and I had to get a replacement sent. Ooni covered that at no cost. If this stone cracked with such ease and quickness, how will the next one hold up? And how long will Ooni replace them? I hope I've not inadvertently signed up for a subscription where I'm obligated to continuously buy replacement stones. Excellent pizzas otherwise.
What an oven! And why three stars only? Well; first of all the pizzas are AMAZING when the learning curve flattens out. I've used it almost every day for a month, having made around 100 pizzas already. What I'm sad to see is the oven rusts! Especially the chimney, around the chimney and the fire cover at the back and the steel here. After only a month, oven looks a bit like an abandoned rusty microwave oven and not a beautiful garden accessory. Still works great though, just glad it's dark when I have the guests over.
