I did a dry run and assembled it in my garage first, just to get familiar with the process before taking it out. I watched a quick video, and the initial setup took about 20 minutes. The second time around, it took no more than 10 minutes—super easy once you know what you're doing. The quality is excellent, and the materials feel solid and durable. Out on the water, it was very stable and handled well, even with some light chop. No issues at all getting around. Highly recommend this kayak to anyone looking for a sleek and compact option.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Found the right kayak for me. I'm 6'4 and 235lbs 73 years old. Needed the length and cockpit size for comfort and stability and tracking. Yet can easily carry the kayak both assembled or in the box. (With backpack or straps) Performed well in a protected (calm) salt marsh on the North Fork of LI . It's not for windy or choppy conditions but mostly have paddled calm water for last 35 years in hard shell boats so given the portability and performance, might be giving up my hard shell…. third time assembling got it down to 12 minutes!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We purchased the Beach Sport kayak for the ability to bring Tippi, our Golden Doodle along with us! We had our maiden voyage in Alamitos Bay, and paddled around Naples Canals in Long Beach California! Tippi loved it and got her sea legs going fine! We love to include her in our adventures, and the other Kayaks did not have room for her. The boat felt stable and solid for paddling in the nice calm bay. My husband paddled Mombo (the name for the new black kayak). I paddled his Coast xt— that one is a pain to assemble, (compared to my Bay ST), but the paddle is sweet and fast. My Bay St started leaking, which is also what spurred the new purchase. I paddled much more than my husband, so the Coast is in pretty good shape— but I noticed a little compromise on one of the folding corners! I might need to repair it before it leaks. We are looking forward to more adventures soon! Thank you for building these wonderful kayaks. Wendy
Still a little more than disappointed that I could not get the Beach Sport LT in white. It's going to bug me the entire time. Especially when I use it in the hot weather. Plus, the white looks so much better. I will add more after my maiden voyage. If I decide to keep it…
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Light and stable and super easy to assemble and disassemble! So happy with my purchase!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Fun to paddle Room for our golden retriever, although he was not too keen about it and jumped ship to swim to shore. Haha. I do have concerns about longevity but it has a bow and stern covering to protect it and time will tell.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's so lightweight and easy to move around while still being fast on the water. I really like the attention to detail. I'm really happy with this purchase. My one regret: I don't really like the black color. It shows pollen and dirt really well, as well as stress decoloration at the folds. The original translucent white with orange looks a lot nicer IMO.
I've been very impressed with my Oru, so far. However, I see plenty of room for improvement on the fishability of this kayak. Coming from a hardsided fishing kayak background, this kayak is severely limited in rigging options and I would still consider it a recreational kayak, not a fishing kayak. As far as quality and ease of use, it's solid. It paddles surprisingly straight (even without the keel) and was simple to fold after initially watching the setup video. Now it's time to see how durable it is!
Oneof my most favorite purchases ever!! The convenience the compact ability to load 2 in the back of an SUV & still have room for your gear is amazing!! Extremely comfortable, maneuverable and stable. 3 time out with them & I'm down to 12 minutes/yak. Disassembly is ever quicker. Durability is my only question mark but I have faith in how it's been made.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I would have rated it higher, but I'd purchased it specifically to allow me to take my 45 lb GSP along. Yes, she “fit” in the cockpit, but a paddle of any duration would be out of the question.
