This is the only brand I buy!

joycarrier August 15, 2025

This was the first movie theater butter I tried. It was the only brand my grocery store sold for a long time. When they started carrying other brands I tried then if they were on sale or priced lower than Orville Redenbacher. Big mistake. This is BY FAR the best movie theater popcorn butter I have tried. There is a huge difference in other brands.

We pop popcorn quite often. It does great. We pop popcorn in a pan not an air popper. Yes, we are old school that way. Only real complaints are that we wish we could buy it in a larger size and extra butter flavor was an option. Otherwise, great product. Good quality.

The reason my kitchen smells like a real theater

Brian March 20, 2026

Popcorn popping oil is the unsung hero of movie night—the reason my kitchen smells like a real theater instead of sad microwave regret. Just a little transforms plain kernels into golden, crispy perfection and suddenly I feel like I run a concession stand out of my house. The only problem is my definition of “just a little” apparently means everything ends up slightly… shinier than planned—my popcorn, the bowl, my hands, possibly nearby furniture. Lost one star because I still can't measure it without turning into a grease scientist gone wrong, but honestly, totally worth it. 🍿😄

this generally makes any brand of popcorn pop almost in its entirety. when used as directed. there is a slight butter flavor and it's not overly greasy. as much popcorn as I make, it can get a little pricey I suppose. but it does beat vegetable, peanut canola and other oils that are sometimes used. wish there was a more movie theater flavor with coconut oil in it, but you could substitute one spoon of coconut oil for one tablespoon of redenbacher's oil.

Good stuff!

Nizzuts November 2, 2025

I pull a little Hannah Montana with this golden elixir. I mix this with organic butter so the healthiness off the butter offsets this stuff (Best of Both Worlds ). Okay, neither are that great for me....but the popcorn turns out amazing....and isn't that what life is all about?!?

More Stale than Buttery

Nardsbaby2 June 22, 2025

We have an air popper and we pop popcorn almost every weekend. And lately I've noticed our popcorn tastes stale. We just opened a new container of popcorn and before the oil was added, it was fine. I think the oil is causing something to make the corn stale and chewy. This is a new thing, as I've mentioned we are popcorn people and we use Orville Redenbacher products.

Why does this product even exist?

Paul September 12, 2025

I have no idea why this product exists. I purchased it because of the product page's "Buttery" label. I am trying to lower my intake of saturated fat and cholesterol, so topping my popcorn with actual butter is no longer an option. So I bought this thinking it was one of the butter substitutes that adds a butter like flavor without the unfortunate health detriments. But this is not, it's just regular soybean oil that's colored darker. there is no flavor at all. Just go buy a regular generic "Vegetable Oil" for a fraction of the price, it's just as good. This product adds nothing of value to demand its higher price.

How is this even a product!?

Absolutely horrifying. Basically Unflavored oil. There was zero taste or even smell. It gave the popcorn zero flavor but made it oily

Popcorn POPPING OIL. Not Buttery Flavored topping

Rhonda January 27, 2026

I ordered Orville Redenbacher's "Buttery Flavored Topping" and popcorn oil. I received Orville Redenbacher's POPPING OIL. Very upset. Not sure if company has changed the product or if there are 2 different products and someone picked up the wrong items. It is tasteless.

Major disappointment. Has absolutely no taste of butter or buttery flavor. Doesn't matter if the kernels are popped in it or dribbled on after popped, just taste like oil. And 120 calories per tsp. I made a snack size air popper serving and could only eat a couple of bites. I usually trust reviews and should have listened to the reviews saying it has not butter taste, just oil. And it's close to $5.00 a bottle. What a rip off. Would not buy again and would not recommend unless you like greasy tasteless popcorn.
