I purchased this mainly for the screen-mirroring feature. One thing I immediately noticed is that the device still uses a regular USB-A connector. Since most newer cars these days already come with USB-C ports, it would be great if they had two options: one with USB-A and one with USB-C. As shown in my photos, the adapter works, but it makes the setup look less clean and integrated.
Setup itself is pretty easy. You just plug it in, and you get two options: regular CarPlay and Screen Mirroring. CarPlay is straightforward and works just as any ither wireless CarPlay adapter. For screen mirroring, you need to connect your phone to the device's Wi-Fi and then select Screen Mirroring on your phone. In my case, I'm using an iPhone.
Screen mirroring works pretty well, but I expected it to use more of my car's display. As you can see in the photos, there are pretty large unused areas around the mirrored image. This doesn't seem to be simply an aspect-ratio issue because the image itself could clearly be bigger.
Even though the connection process is easy,it is still required every time.. I need to select the device's Wi-Fi, connect to it, then open Screen Mirroring and start mirroring. I found this process a little cumbersome, especially if you use it often. Hopefully they release a Gen 2 version with a faster and more automatic connection process.
Overall, I think this is a pretty interesting device. It's the first device I've personally found that provides both CarPlay and screen mirroring. Screen mirroring can be very useful when you're parked and have a long wait. You can basically put anything from your phone onto your car screen and watch it while waiting for someone or spending some time in the car while not driving.
