Love this kayak! Great value and just as good as most basic options by other companies- I'd say it's equivalent to a sundolphin or pelican model of similar size and amenities. I love the adjustable seat and stability- I often fish from it. Wish the paddle was better - I will be replacing it. Works for me at 175lbs and 5'4” and my boyfriend has one just like it - he's 6'3” and 260.
I love my new fishing kayak. It tracks really good and I have lots of room to move around without feeling like I'm going to tip over. I was even brave enough to stand up on it. Looking forward to many many more trips with my family.
For $500, this Kayak is a good deal. The average 10' kayak is lighter and easier to transport, but has half the float capacity of this kayak, which can float 500 lbs. It comes with paddle, two storage bags for the compartments, and a rod holder. Make sure you get those accessories, sometimes they are missing when out on the show floor. The seat is excellent, extremely comfortable. I have a bad back and sat in it for 5 hours without pain or discomfort. It has 8 scupper holes molded into the body, but only 4 of them are exposed, the other 4 are hidden underneath the foam walking pads. If you want it to drain faster, you could just cut away the foam and expose the other holes. Drains OK as is for average use. I love how the seat folds down flat inside the kayak for transport. The cargo ports are large and easy to use, and the doors are hinged so you won't lose them. The metal side rails are for accessories from YakAttack or Ram mounts. I bought two YakTttack Omega Pro fishing rod holders, which work perfectly on those rails. The Tri-Hull design makes it very stable and has a strap to help you stand up on the kayak for bass fishing or just to stretch your legs on the leg. The seat has a high and low position, and the little paddle it comes with doesn't reach the water well in high position. I bought a longer paddle because I sit high anyway. One person gave it a 1 star review for the cheap straps, and the plastic buckles on them are cheap. Mine broke when I leaned back hard against my seat. I easily replaced the plastic buckles with metal buckles. Just buy any 1" black strap with metal buckle at WalMart or other hardware store, cut the strap to the same length, and swap the buckle strap out. Cost me $7. It's a simple bolt
I knew it came with a rod holder, ruler and compartment bags. But I didn't see any description listing a paddle even though it was in the photo. It did and it is plastic and aluminum. Enough to get you started. And I didn't know it came with scupper plugs too. So the one I was buying was missing the rod holder and plugs. A sales associate took them from another kayak. So make sure you get all that should be included.
Overall this kayak is a great value and i would give it a 5 if not for an issue with the adjustable seat mount system. For $500 you cant beat it but i found a flaw that i hopefully corrected that Iâll share. When the sun hits this thing itâs like a solar collector and the plastic warms up enough to get flexible causing the rearward seat brackets to spread apart at the top under your body weight enough for the seat to pop out and fall to the floor. This only happens in the raised position which seems to be most comfortable for fishing. I looked it up on youtube and found others with the same issue and one showing how they fixed it. I came up with a more simple and less expensive fix for about $8-10. You can see in the attached photo the 2 brackets marked with red arrows that spread under your weight. I made a couple of cables and attached them to the bracket and added a turnbuckle to snug it up making it adjustable and keeping the bracket from spreading apart at the top. I still need to give it a good lengthy test but Iâm hoping it works. Itâs too good of a kayak to return for that price. I would also go around the entire kayak with a phillips screwdriver checking for loose ones. I found many and a few stripped. No worries since theyâre all on top
For the price you can not beat it with a stick. It's amazingly stable and tracks very well. The scupper holes need a re work and the flush mount rod holders and storage lids don't fit quite right. I assume it was put together at Walmart or something because some of the screws holding the lids and flush mount holders didn't even go through the hull. I had to reposition most of them so that everything was secured. The rod holder that goes in the left side is garbage, it's in a fixed position and is to far away from the seat. It has a cover which is necessary so don't remove it because it goes straight through and water can enter through there. It has two drains front and rear. The storage bags are also cheap I had to put baskets to give it structure. The seat is very comfortable with a hi and low position. The down side is after a while the hull will flex and the seat will fall down. I corrected this by using a strap to keep the brackets from separating and it works fine. I've seen some add a brace but imo this will make it difficult to remove the seat when transporting. I added a Scotty track in front of the right track to keep my fish finder from getting in the way. I also added a Scotty cup holder to the left track. I use a ice chest with 1 1/4” pvc drilled into it for extra rod holders. The front flush mount rod holders serve only for transportation. Storing rods up front and fishing is not a good idea. All in all I have found my last kayak. I can stand and fish with no problem. It's even more stable than my buddies vibe sea ghost 110, and my other friends ascend 12T both which cost 200 more than the pro angler. It is the same as the boss 12ss and one other companies model since they use the same mold. This one has more options though. Buy with confidence. I may even buy a second one for my wife.
Very stable, able to stand up in. Tracking was better than anticipated. The bungee strapping was a disappointment. The front one was separated when I unpacked it. The rear one separated the first time I tried to use it. Overall a good fishing kayak.
I would give this kayak a 5 plus rating if the manufacturer would even attempt to provide some customer service. I had the issue of the seat popping out of the braket if used in the top position. I also had a problem with both bungees pulling apart at the connector. Simple solution--use the seat in the low posititon and replace the bungees with new ones. Here is the problem. I attempted to register the warranty but could not get it to go through the website. I then sent a message to the company reporting the problem with the warranty as well as a fix for the seat problem and bungee problem bit the e-mail was never replied to. I had just bought the kayak and used it one time before my e-mail was sent. The part that bothers me the most about this is the I try to buy American as often as I can. This is supposed to be an American company and they need to show the pride of having customer service. The problems I mentioned had easy fixes. A strap between the seat brackets to keep them from spreading apart allowing the seat to fall out of the brackets. Longer bungees that are tied together instead of using the butting connector that Sun Dolphin used on this model boat (this is a Sun Dolphin Boss 12 SS Kayak). The boat is great and an excellent buy for the money but when I spend 500 dollars on something I would like the warranty registered and also a reply from customer service.
Used this guy twice and both times the inside as well as the too filled with water, nearly sinking my husband. Definitely not a quality product. We returned it and headed to REI for a higher end product.
Took out on a 8 mile float first time out with it. Every ten minutes had to bank it pull everything out and drain it. Beyond dissatisfied with it. If u wanna have a nightmare on the water and sink tile boat buy it.
