Ozark Trail 30L Commuter Backpack, with Laptop Compartment for Work or Travel, Black

This is a unique item among the thousand and thousands of backpacks out there. Advertised as a Commuter Backpack, the actual tag that comes with it from Ozark calls it "Duffle Bag". In actuality, it is neither. It appears to be a cross between a soft side briefcase, a daypack and a travel bag. None of which really dominates the design, so it is kind of a limbo hybrid type of thing. I own dozens of backpacks and have had many over the years from Camelbak, SOG, High Sierra, Kelty, Eddie Bauer, Outdoor Products, Osprey, Wilderness Experience, Chuck Roast, Outdoor Master, REI and others. Fabric, design, function, comfort, construction, zippers are all important factors to consider when purchasing one. This hybrid beast is very well constructed from high grade polyester, 600D if I was to guess, well padded back, excellent padded comfortable grab handle. Cavernous main compartment that is most of the huge 30L capacity. Nicely padded laptop section which butts up against the substantial back padding. The weirdness starts with the "backpack straps". They almost seem to be an afterthought attached to this briefcase like item. Similarly, there is a padded handle on the side so you can carry this pack sideways like a briefcase. One the front is a really strange configuration of two pockets made from one piece of material. Both are vertical compartment that sit atop one another made from single layered piece of material. On the right side of the pack as you are looking at it is a zippered spacious compartment that has two horizonal pockets you can use. Very awkward as you are holding the pack horizontally and the pockets are also horizontal. On the left side is another zippered pocket, but this side has no pockets to utilize. There are no usually features of a backpack such as pocket for pens, pencils etc. There are no water bottle pockets, there is no sternum strap, there is no waist belt. There is no ventilation channel on the back so you do not get a sweaty back. A platypus of a daypack, very well made, indestructible.

Great Backpack. Seems to be good quality with some non-tear fabric. Fits laptop and everything else you need. Might be a little too big for a personal item on a flight, but probably would be fine. Cheaper than options of similar size and quality.

This is a great backpack at an excellent value. It's got tons of room to pack. This could be used as your one travel bag if you are packing light and need just the basics. I enjoy the clean ascetics of the bag. I also like the handle on the side. It does don't have a water bottle pocket on the outside but that doesn't bother me.

Very good quality for the price. Though it is big the interior space is taken up by a lot of padding. No water bottle pockets. One zippered pocket on the front for flat objects. A place for sunglasses at the top. You get two hand straps, one at the top on one on the side! If you need your stuff padded here's your bag but you won't carry as much stuff as you thought.

I don;t think you should expect too much since this bag is sub 20 dollars. But it will fit packing cubes well. What i like is the suitcase style opening though the zipper does get stuck on top when closing, You just have to hold it down to close. Perhaps if they added some stiff fabric here it would close smoothly. Straps have padding, I wouldn't put anything super heavy but it is enough. Front side has two zippers that have different layered compartments. Left side and right side each has their own sleeve. Side handle is padded. I really wish this had a drinking pocket for my water bottle, even a small one would have been great. It does have a laptop pocket inside the main compartment with some padding so that it keeps the structure. Wish they made it in different colors but black fits with everything. Even if this lasts a couple of years it would have been worth it.

Wasn't sure what to expect for ten bucks but it's pretty good quality. Not sure how it will hold up but it feels solid. The pockets are very different from other backpacks I have. Not sure if I'll like them. I do like the handle on the side though. Makes it a lot easier to carry it as a briefcase or non back pack. It has the loop in the back to use with a rolling luggage handle too. Another bonus. The glasses case is a nice touch for something this cheap. Overall five stars. The only problem is the zipper for the main compartment seems to get stuck on the inside material a little bit. That's why I docked it a star.

I love this backpack. The overall design is great for overnight, travel, or a work bag. However, I find the straps uncomfortable for long use. If they would have curved them they would be much more comfortable.

The design of the backpack makes it impossible to pack. The sides flop open and then you have to pull them up to try and see where your things are going to fit. If they had just made it a straight zipper around it would have been great but the weird curves make it unusable.
